OOOh.,,, yeah, we haven't met her parents yet. They are hosting an engagement party up in Seattle on February 2nd. My three brothers and their wives, and 2 nieces and a nephew are invited. Is there something I should do? Or take her parents? It's really less an engagement party and more a meet the family party. Terika has one sis and bro inlaw in Washington DC, and another set in Chicago, and they will be out here then. I don't think any of their friends will be there, just family. Of course they didn't ask Gary's brothers, one lives in Fairbanks, and the others in Sandpoint and Ry knows they wouldn't be able to come anyway. This will be interesting. As Ryan says, "you know Mom, Terika isn't in to weddings."... I had figured that, but I was hoping. It will be interesting to see if she even wears a dress and not NorthFace! lol And with the last two girlfriends, I know I would have been included in EVERYTHING> .. this one, probably nothing! lol oh well....

Oh, Kat, she is really pretty....what a warm smile. And look @ Ryan's dimples! A very handsome couple! That she isn't "into weddings" speaks practicality to me,,,not always present in young couples today. Glad to hear Ryan is doing well in his career. Wishing the couple much future happiness. Have they set a date, yet? Enjoy the par-tayyyyyy next month.

I was a VERY quiet bride too--just very shy with the new family I was meeting. They can't shut me up now. Will your soon-to-be dil talk to you? Shyness can often look like haughtiness. They are a darling couple.

Our son married over a year ago. They were engaged for over a year, and in that time she went from a simple wedding idea to returning the dress she bought for one that would be more romantic. Since her parents lived several states away, they were limited in their involvement. She looked for a dress with her mom, but did not find any in their small town.

For her birthday a few months after they were engaged, we gave her a check for a wedding gown. We did not know that she had bought one in Chicago shopping with a college friend, but had since decided she wanted something more romantic and flowing. So I took her to the shop where we found my DDs gown. Like my daughter, she loved the first dress she tried on, and it was lovely on her.

They married on a rustic ranch in Big Sur, California, on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Pacific. The reception was at an intimate restaurant, their favorite. Her "logo" was pine cones with redwoods being a supporting role, and she did a great job of decorating on a budget to make for a festive destination wedding weekend.

Hope your young couple enjoy all the planning to make their day perfect for them.

Oh, sorry, I forgot. We found out yesterday that they have chosen September 13th for the wedding date. really, I'm serious, she might show up to the wedding wearing northface fleece! lol she wears mens shorts, converse tennis shoes, favorite colors are gray, black and red. Ryan has never see her in a dress. lol Guess we will find out soon enough! lol

Hi Katâ¦.missed you. I think of you often. Some people here said you posted a lot on Facebook, but I don't do Facebook. Congrats to Ryan. If it makes you feel any better, when I first met DH's family, his mother said "She's very nice, but does she talk?" Of course, with his family, it was hard to get a word in edgewise. Years later, his mom couldn't believe she ever said such a thing because I learned to hold my own. LOL

do the kids drink wine? if yes, her parents might as well, and I'd buy a nice local wine...if not maybe a picture album (add 1 or 2 of ds as a child) flowers, or call and ask if you can bring something food-wise...

as for the wedding, usually the parents host the rehersal dinner...won't hurt to ask...our boys went 2 different ways...one, our house, bbq...the other a pizza place close by the venue....

and if they do informal wedding, no problem with finding the right clothes! lol....they look like a dream couple for sure!

Our family went to Ireland for my DD's wedding in 2012. We stayed at a lovely B.&B. in the town of Doolin. Our bedroom windows all had a view of the Cliffs of Moher. DD got married in a little local church and had her wedding reception at Gus O'Connor's pub. Perhaps your son visited the pubs in Doolin while they were there. It was fun having our family group of 13 from Canada celebrating the wedding with the locals in that lively pub.

I bet your future daughter in law will eventually become easier to talk to as she gets to know you all better. Best wishes for good health in this new year!

Thank you, everyone. She is tall. 5'11" I believe. We have not meet her parents, but I do know they do not drink wine. And I suspect , Don't drink at all. Good idea with the photo album. :)

So did my son-in-law. And it really was NorthFace! They got married atop Killington Mountain and then skied down.

If Terika (cool name) is 5'11", Ryan must be very tall! She's so pretty . . . his first view of her in a beautiful dress would probably make him weak in the knees. ;-)
