No, I'm happy to have normal life back after the holidays. It's a good day. Are you in low spirits, Cheryl? Maybe the weather is gloomy where you are as that sure can affect people's emotional feelings.

I'm a little depressed! Had to wake up at 5:30 am to go to work after 16 glorious vacation days off where I slept in and did whatever I wanted! Not a serious depression of course but kind of a bummer. :)

Somewhat, just because it is so frigid outside I'm housebound. It is -20 with a -40 wind chill factor. I would love to get some fresh air and exercise, but it is not going to happen! Making the best of it, but we in MN have already had so many frigid days over the last month that cabin fever is setting in. And there's still many more months of winter ahead.

Slept late, woke up with sun shining.

But the down side is is that it is extremely cold for AL and very very windy.

19 right now in the am, and doing down to 8 tonight.

Upside: big warmup at end of week and will be in the low 60's.

Nope. Was out at 6:30 shovelling, while the landlord was firing up the snow-blower. I shovelled around the cars, and the snow off the cars, and the front walk.

I love winter, as long as it's cold and sunny. A number of years back, we had a gloomy, drizzly winter with nothing but freezing rain. Hardly a sunny day at all. It was horrible!

Not at all. I'm so glad to be settling back into normal.

How can I be a couple hours away and have 6 degree weather, when you're 19, Glenda?! Weirdness! ;) I guess I could be up for a drive. Wonder what would happen if I drove past you, right on down to the panhandle? What's 6 or so more hours when we're talking another 14 degrees. Wow. Gulf Shores is 33? That sounds odd. I guess we'd have to go all the way to Tampa (68 degrees right now), or even farther south, to really make a difference.

No, although it is bitterly cold, there is a blue sky with big white fluffy clouds and Sunny is shining brightly. A day with sunshine for me can never be depressing.

No Socks, I'm not in low spirits, enjoying the freezing temps in front of my wonderful fire! I've never heard of " a most depressing day of the year" so was wondering how everyone else is feeling .

The sky is blue, the snow plow has gone by and blocked the end of my drive (again). I have shoveled and shoveled, no way can this body be depressed.

I am sorta bummed out, since I was in Tampa less than one month ago and it was in the 80s. On our drive back to Illinois we stayed the night in Birmingham and the hotel desk clerk had on layers and layers of clothes. And, it was in the 40s. I shudder to think how he is doing now.

No, not at all. although I do have to be aware of how light sensitive I am, these short days where I'm getting up in the dark and making dinner in dark are not my best time of year.

But today is good. I got sleepy and went to bed early last night after a great Mexican dinner. We don't have heavy frost for the first time in 3 days. DH went happily to work, I'm going to do the reports and checks for 4th quarter 2013 payroll liabilities and I took a chicken out of the freezer yesterday to roast later. It's quiet in my house, the hummingbirds are squabbling outside my office window (they don't share well even though I have a feeder for each of the three that are overwintering in my yard ;)), a normal morning where I know I have a lot to be thankful for.

I've been waiting for today!!! I'm happy the holidays are over and life is back to normal.

No, I used to get depressed before the holiday & was always glad for January. But ever since the estrogen stopped being produced (read: menopause) my mood has been quite even & mellow.

Life is good. COLD weather, but good.

Nope. Too much to do to be depressed. Check with me around April 15...that day always depresses me.

Glad you cleared that up Cheryl... :) and for those not knowing, she does have a fabulous fireplace to snuggle up in front of. ;)

I am not depressed either. Got an extra day off from work, and been reading my book. Just took a break to check in here.

I kind of like to get the holidays behind me. Jasdip, you'd hate it here in NE Ohio because it is dreary every winter...well actually from fall until late spring really. Almost no sun whatsoever! If we are lucky, we will get one sunny day every couple weeks.

Somewhere in the middle for me, but mostly feeling pretty good. I finally got a flu shot this morning (better late than never, right?) and my arm hurts. I went to Whole Foods and ran onto an old friend. We had a nice chat. I've known her for 45 years although we are not close friends.

Now home and preparing for the big freeze that is about to arrive. I can feel the temps dropping already.

I have to organize the corner of the basement where the Christmas decs go, and then put them away. They are mostly down except the tree. It was such a fresh tree and still looks nice. It will go on Thursday.

I am happy to put the holidays behind me and get back to regular life.

Our local news station just ran a little clip on 'the most depressed day of the year', which I hadn't heard of before reading it here. They said " most feel low because of lack of sleep and the struggle to keep up with their New Year's resolutions"

Well that explains it, I went to bed early and I don't make resolutions at New Year ;) Those who are depressed over struggling to keep them just 6 days into the year couldn't have made very realistic resolutions....Baby steps, most things work out best with just tiny baby steps I think.

Not at all! I like wintry-grey days, so this kind of weather doesn't bother me.
Have the decorations down and mostly put away, something to cook later, and a dog curled up beside me.

Not depressed. Just relieved that we got out of Chicago before the worst of this weather took hold -- made our connection in Dallas and arrived Maui in time to see the sun set on New Year's Day.

There are always suprises at the condo. The 'deep clean' we pay for in advance of our arrival is never *that* deep, but better this year than some. Only little surprise came yesterday afternoon.

"Do you hear water running," asks my DH. We finally locate a tiny leak behind the refrigerator: It's the water line for the ice maker. Fortunately, I can turn the water off right there. Because...of course...it's Sunday! A repairman from our rental management company is coming later today or tomorrow.

Like some have said, I can deal better with cold and sunny at home. I don't deal well with grey skies pressing down like a lid. I'm also always relieved to see the end of 'the holidays' -- too much forced cheer.

I'm not depressed; I'm just exhausted, chilled, disappointed, and teed off. May I rant for a minute? LOL

I started dedicating at least part of each Monday as my healing time. Weekends are so stressful. I try to keep up with cooking the copious amounts of food dh wants; and managing the dogs is much more work than during the week since they are so revved up when he's home. They are high-octane hunters and don't do sedate with any grace or charm.

Since the temps have been -20s with today's windchill at -42; they cannot go outside except for a quick potty break. Dh has been spending all his time on the computer reading "Alaska mountain man tall tales" and has decided our house is too hot. It was 62 degrees in the living room and he's yelling "why do you have to have it so hot in here." He takes off his outer shirt and is wearing sandals. The bedroom, 52 degrees unless I put my little heater in there, is "a little better but still too hot. Can't you get rid of some of these blankets? I have flannel sheets, one thin thermal blanket, one thicker plush blanket, and one quilt. Apparently so-and-so traveled 100 miles in -50 temps wearing minimal clothes back in the big blizard of oughty-oughty. Anyone needing any more warmth is just a wimp. I told him tall tales are often based more on imagination than facts.

I refuse to dignify his rants with any response. I put on more layers of clothes and wear a jacket or fleece blanket when I sit down. He said he had to go outside to be able to breath. I said well since you're going to be outside, would you top up the bird feeders? He was not amused, but filled two of the four suet feeders, topped up one of the two tube feeders, and put suet pellets in the hopper feeder. Later I bundled up and filled the other suet feeders, hung a hopper feeder for sunflower chips, and set up the platform feeder.

It was good for me to get out on the air (his comment). Today he went back to work, two hours later than normal. I have drunk hot tea, read a great book, and thoroughly enjoyed watching all the birds.

I did remove ice/snow from about 4 square feet of the front deck. I'll do more tomorrow.

I'm only depressed about today's golf game.

It's called Blue Monday. It's the day when the supposed happy Christmas season is over, people are back at school/work with all the traffic that entails, it is dark in the morning and dark in the afternoon, (and for some of you frigging cold!), many are sick with colds and flu and Christmas bills are starting to arrive.

Now are you depressed?

Half and half. Really love that the holidays are really over. No more screwed up schedules. But because of the frigid temps, I can't get in the exercise outside as usual, although I did walk the dogs in 32 degree temps, a few hours ago. It has dropped 12 degrees since then.

I read that this was declared the most depressing day of the year. Never heard of it before.

(((Caroline))) Aren't you lucky he's gone all week? LOL Hope you've cranked up the heat, too. (Now I think I can understand better why your front door freezes. That was you posting about that, wasn't it?)
