I've been reading an annotated version online of a book I've read before by the author I love above all others. Even though I'm reading the online version in one of the places I'd read a regular book--in bed--I'm finding I don't have quite the same attention span as I do when I have paper to flip through. I keep hearing that the Kindle (hate the name) is designed to be easier on the eyes/more paper-like than the typical laptop monitor, but I have my doubts. And even if the thing does offer a pleasurable reading experience (can you adjust your type size?), I'm assuming it's too delicate to take to the beach or into the bathtub. And books are better on long trips, because you can buy cheap or used paperbacks and then abandon them (ideally at a hotel book-exchange rack) without guilt. I also wonder if it's likely to be a pain transferring one's favorite books from device to device every time the technology changes (like it's been taking certain docs from big floppies to little floppies to zip to cd or dvd). I do like the idea of saving a few trees. Still, I don't see myself using one--playing with one, maybe.

Hi Raven! I got my reader this afternoon. It is charging right now, I connected to our wifi. i don't suppose there is a program to convert the kindle to the epub is there? lol Its a pandigital novel 6 it seems like the orientation sensor isn't working but I can deal with that.

I pick up at least one free book a day from Amazon. I get the 3 email lists with all the great deals and freebies daily. Pixelofink.com, bookbub.com, and bookgorilla.com. So many wonderful free books offered daily. I have the kindle app on all of my devices which allows me to read any kindle books, but I can also read other formats like epub with my other reader apps like aldiko, there are free lists for those also out there. Today there are another 2 of the J.A. Konrath series for free and one for 99c. I now have just about that entire series by picking them up every time one was on for free. The main character is a woman detective, her name is Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels which is why the names of the books are all drink names. I have a quedtion on Kindle books for children. My eight year old has a Kindle and I would like to give her a gift cetifiicate to purchase books online. Is there a website I can look at to order? Her mom won't let me buy clothes or toys as my tastes are not to her liking...
