What?! Is she nuts? Hurting children? C'mon! Kids today are hurting from not moving around.

I kept telling my son, marching band is hard work. Are you sure you want to do this? Because you're not quitting halfway through. They produce a show based on people in spots, and if you quit, there is a hole! He kept looking at my like I was nuts. As though, how hard can it be? At the end of day 1, he was sore. Day 2, he said, I hurt all over! I said, take some ibuprofen and get back out there!!!! Maybe you'll get back in shape (he had been on summer break and not been fencing). He agreed it might be a good idea. He thought it would get easier. And it did. Long about two months later of hard physical work every day for six days a week. He loved it. He finally figured out I wasn't nuts, it was really work.

The only thing I was hurting were under-used muscles. Get a grip Sharon Hodson (who likely has severely obese boys). Boys were meant to run, jump, play hard and move around.

Oh I am sure she meant just what she said. I believe in taking care of your kids and protecting them but really things have gone over board in so many cases. Man it makes me wonder how all of us lived through our youth because some of the things we did would be outlawed today! We rode our bikes on dirt country roads and there was never any kind of helmet or knee pads. We would fall and get skinned knees but get up and keep going.

It really has gone too far when plain old exercises are now being slammed because it could hurt you. There were days in PE class I wished somethings were banned lol like climbing that darn rope to the top of the gym! The bain of my existence! I never once got to the top but I always gave it my all. Never mind that I had to use my inhaler when I got down lol.
But seriously that is just nonsense.
Heck you could fall out of bed and hurt yourself so should beds be on the floor? *snark*

One can only feel sorry for kids who have a parent with such wrong-headed views, especially because some of it gets passed along to them. I remember when my kids were younger , the thoughts and actions of some of their friends' parents were often outrageously dumb.

When I used to be a brownie leader, we would do camps. And part of the camp experience is bringing your own dishes in a dish bag. After every meal, you are expected to wash your own dishes (in a line, prepped scrape, pre-rinse, wash, after rinse), put them in your dishbag, and hang them up.

Often meals (especially dinners) included helping prep the meal. A favourite is hamburger packs where you wash and cut your own potato and layer it with veggies over a hamburger patty, season it, and wrap it in foil. Those kids LOVE making that dinner, and always eat it with gusto.

Another part is chore rotation. And part of that may include cleaning bathrooms. Swishing the toilets, putting out paper and paper towels, wiping sinks (we used baking soda and vinegar). Sweeping and mopping the floor. Took minutes, literally.

Do you know how many complaints we got from parents? Their poor baby had to WASH THEIR OWN POTATO. And their own dishes. And clean bathrooms!

You would have thought we made them use their toothbrush LOLOLOL. It wasn't slave labour, they generally had fun doing it and we never asked them to do anything really nasty. Plus, we were helping. We weren't standing there eating bonbons while forcing the precious youngsters to do our work.

I think parents do not expect enough out of their children anymore.

I saw the video days ago, I think it is cute and that Gaston handled the whole thing very well and he was adorable ;) I believe she meant it, lately I have meet a lot of stoopid people!!

Thanks Jas, been some hectic and strange times around here so a lot of things had to be put on hold or limited. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Yet more proof that this next generation is being raised as a bunch of lazy sissies. When my now 27 year daughter was in high school, (the same school DH and his siblings, all my siblings and myself went to, and that our mother was the girls health and PE teacher for the senior high) it was to the point where you could "opt out" of gym class. All you had to do was sign and turned in a paper every Tuesday morning saying that you had at least 1 hour of physical activity in the past week.

Are you freaking kidding me???!!! She told me gym class was a joke anyhow, that they did nothing. There are NO requirements. She played basketball, softball, volleyball and dance team. She had more exercise in one week than an entire gym class.
