It's a ringed neck pheasant. Fairly common and a game bird here in Minnesota. I didn't know they were in California. The were imported from China. My Dad grew up in northern minnesota in the 1920's. He tells about some being released in their area when he was a kid and they would come and eat with the chickens. Ron

Beanie is a good boy now. At first he had some insecurity issues, would 'mark' his territory in the house when left alone. That hasn't happened for 4 months now. Got on the dining room table twice and ate chocolate which required an expensive trip to the vets. Otherwise, he has been very mellow and gets along well with the senior dog in the house. And it didn't take him but a couple weeks to become a lap dog.
