Are any of you having this problem? It is happening quite frequently. I have Yahoo as my home page and quite frequently when I go there to search something, a notice comes up and says "Internet Explore has stopped working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

I recently updated to Windows 7 and 32 bit. I have Internet Explore 8.

Is there a chance the problem may be in my settings, someplace? It is more of a nuisance than anything else.

Will look forward to all your suggestions.

It is an internal problem in the I.E. program.. After fighting that nonesense for over a year I finally downloaded Mozilla Firefox and have no more problems.

ivamae, I have the same issue when I log on to IE. I don't use it often, but I think it started about a month ago. Just a nuisance, as immediately after the notice, it runs fine.

I wouldn't bother fixing Internet Explorer 7. I would up date to version 9. It's the most current version for the operating system Vista. Here is a link that might be useful: explorer/ie-9

mikie: can't say I understand the ghack... site well. It says to determine if my IE settings are already safely set in 'advanced' security mode by going thru Tools, Options, Advanced, and then down somewhere in the Security area to look or do something that is not clearly defined. I see that there is a check box for Allowing some 64 bit security setting that is checked in the ghack picture. It is not further described and it is not the highlighted item in that list. In my IE 11, that box is not checked, but by going more directly thru Tools, Security, I can see that 'advanced security' is selected. I suppose that 64 bit box might need to be checked, but it appears to be allowing more rather than less access and that seems like a weakness rather than an improvement. So, I don't know what I am supposed to do here. And it seems odd that a supposed huge hole that requires massive Microsoft scrambling can be fixed by checking a box or not!!! The ghack site then goes on about something called Enhanced Mitigated Experience Toolkit. It doesn't tell how to get it safely and also implies it is not needed if my security is set appropriately. Gee Thanks. Finally, it comments on Flash. I have already upgraded but I would like to point out that the Adobe terminology and others as well tend to suggest that it is an update rather than a newly named version. It seems odd that what seems like a patch, is a new version; but whatever, I guess.

The attraction of IE alternatives, especially 5 years ago and more, stemmed more from how clunky IE was rather than the superiority of the others. Firefox/Netscape/Opera were ok and worked fine, IE was awful. The decision for what best to use was easy, though much of Corporate America stuck to IE for employees' internal use. Today, I think IE has done a lot of catching up. I find it pretty decent and comparable to the others though I don't use it as my default browser. OP, there are a half dozen or more solid browsers to choose from, all have there own peculiarities, problems and features and all are free. There's no need to persist with something that isn't working for you.

marti8a I am sure there will be updates from CNet on this issue and probably in most major publications as well. It had even hit our local news so this is something most people are probably aware of by now. I'll post when I hear/read about a fix but I'm sure you can find it on whatever your own news choices are, too.

I switched from IE to Google Chrome and love it! I've had no problems like I did with IE, which I don't use anymore AT ALL!

IE is full of problems, both operational and very open to viruses...I switched to Mozilla Firefox about 5 years ago.

Count me among those who use Firefox.
I seriously know no one in real life who still uses IE!

Most use Chrome.

I have used firefox for as long as I can remember never really used any of the IE versions if I could help it, on my tablets I also use Opera mini and Dolphin browsers. There are so many better options than IE and of course everyone should have at least one other browser on the pc in case IE fails to work so you can still access the internet.

I have always used IE and had no trouble. However, recently I've been unable to upload photos to Photobucket, and I wondered if it was an IE problem.

Is Firefox free, Raven? Where's the best place to get it? Download.com?

It is free go to WWW.mozilla.com and select FireFox.
After you download it choose to run or install file it will at one point ask if you want to import your settings and bookmarks say yes to all,when asked if you want it default you can say no for now it can be changed anytime.

Once installed when you open it the first time it goes to the FireFox page so you know it installed properly. After that it should open to your normal homepage.

Any time you want to use instead of IE just click the FireFox icon on your desktop. You can use both at the same time.

I am using IE 7 and my internet provider is AT&T. ATT is using Yahoo!. A few years back, I updated to IE 8 and ran into several problems similar to descriptions in this post. It behaved like beta software. I decided not to be a beta user/developer and reverted back to IE 7 and have been using that version with little problem. Very likely in the next year or two, web designers will start using calls and features not found in IE 7 and it will become obsolete. At that point, I have to change, but until then, I'll continue with IE 7.

IE and Windows 7 don't always get along. We had the same issue, and our work sent out an email to fix it.

Click on the "nut" icon at the top right, next to the little house and the star.

Click on Internet Options, then the Advanced Tab.

Scroll down near the bottom and make sure All of the TTL 1.0, 1.2 and 1.2 are UNchecked. This will fix your problem right away.
