Jasdip, a good friend of mine is the photographer for the local orchid society. She has dozens of orchids, all barren right now. I hosted a dinner party back in early October and my guests brought me a lovely butterfly orchid, my very first orchid of any kind. Of course I asked my orchid photographer friend how to take care of it and what to expect. She told me how to water it and to expect all the blossoms to fall off soon and to not assume it was dead. Three months later and my orchid still looks incredible! In fact, I took a photo of it this morning to send to the gal who gave it to me. And to take back my promise to her that I would surely kill it immediately. :-) I will post that photo tomorrow. But today is a photo I took on last Saturday's hike in the local mountains. Jodi-

When we were at the Gatun Locks our guide pointed at the "mule" at the tail end of the ship that was transiting and said the smoke around it was because the ship was currently rubbing along the edge of the canal, and said the canal operating crew was probably already talking with the ships captain to pay for damage to the ship. He also pointed out that Panamax ships (the maximum size that will fit in the locks) are 13 containers wide, and they have these circular connection points on the stern of the ship for attaching the cables for the mules. This image also shows how tight the fit is. There was less than 6 inches gap on each side.Also the mules only keep the ships centered in the locks, the ships must provide their own power to move forward through the locks

They required a baby picture from the seniors for the annual. We sent this one over today. I was tempted to clean up his sweet face, but couldn't bring myself to do it. Warts and all, my baby :) I took it forever ago, but my computer didn't scan it very well, that's the bigger problem with the exposure and his very dark eyes. He actually has hazel, so what's up with the demon eyes?

great pictures! Casey, I love the designs in the freezing waters. The colors in that are great, Jim! And I would have spent WAY too much in there, By Nicole, you've been all over the world! Great shot through those amazing branches.

Making a "theme" from the first three images above: small boats, bright colors, tropical looking plants ....

Several small fishing boats pulled ashore at the end of Copacabana Beach.

In hopes of keeping the cats off my arm when I'm on my laptop, and just being in the way, I put a box on my desk. It just might work.

genius! Although I think you need to print out a copy of your screen and paste it to the inside back of the box, and print out an image of your keyboard, and paste it on the bottom of the box, so that you can more truly simulate the being-totally-in-the-way experience that cats seem to crave.
