Delta: I love that chair rail organizer idea, unfortunately I don't think we have the wall space for anything like that. Almost all the walls will have furniture against them or back up to a door--except for the corner where the oak hutch is now which I'll probably put her easel there until she outgrows it in another year or so. I do agree she needs some type of hanging coat rack and saw a few iron with curlicue ones on eBay--but that's for the finishing touches. What did you think of the Barely Teal I have above? It's the lightest color on the aqua strip. lyban: Hmmm... the lime ones do look pretty good. I'll have to look at those some more when I get ready to order my next batch of samples. DD prefers aqua with lime accents. We currently have an accent wall, but I don't think it works in a room her size--also was thinking the same with an accent ceiling. I'm actually wondering if it'd be better to paint the ceiling the same as the walls to give it a more expansive feeling? As much as I like the seafoam furniture, I feel it's starting to pull this room in another direction. I was thinking the color that would really compliment it is a pale lavender... but that is not DD's wish. Hopefully some kind soul will take pitty on me and lend some photoshop help so I know which direction to go for paint samples.

DD would prefer the furniture all white, perhaps darker aqua walls; everyone here thinks we should keep it the seafoam color (which has more green in it than the aqua we were invisioning when we started this room). I also prefer the seafoam as it has that element of funkiness I think she'll appreciate heading into her tweens and teens whereas white she may outgrow. Her older sister would love it if I gave her the green light to paint her furniture, but no-deal there as it's nice, solid natural maple stuff. Having some visuals I think will help her decide. Luckily, she's agreed to the pale aqua walls as I've told her we'll have some punches of color--just not all over the whole walls. cooperbailey: yes, lots of fun and so is my DD. She asks me everyday when I pick her up from school what progress I've made on her room. dilly_dally: I agree about mixing painted and unpainted furniture and in fact could see either of these pieces at home in my LR quite easily, but not for this space--which is quite small and gets busy looking very easily with all her stuff. The mahogany will just have to be painted. I know it'll look nice when it's done as does the highboy--though I don't think I could've been the one to paint that piece. bungalow_house: You know how CL is, you have to sift through a lot of lemons sometimes... Not only that, but it was only 4 miles from my house and guy took off work for lunch to meet me... It was total luck as it was part of a set that belonged to his great aunt and for some reason he is keeping part of the pieces and selling the rest. I'd think he'd want to keep it as a set as I think it has more value that way. justgotabeme: I think it's similar in style, but seems to be newer and (we hope) of better quality. I actually think the old wrought iron ones are probably better quality than the new stuff. Since orig. price is $400, we're hoping it's decent quality. I'll need to check the weight tho. DH is weird that way in that if something is very cheap, he thinks it's because it's poor quality. We'll see tho as seller has not called me back yet on the bolt. If they cannot find a replacement then DH says we won't buy. We shouldn't have to pay that money and then scrounge around for spare parts.... sheesharee: I think so to!

At age 9, my DD can reach all the drawers. What I've always done with her is to put the current season's clothes in the most easily accessable drawers and move the out-of-season clothes to the less accessable drawers. So far, it's working really well--girls seem to collect more clothes and accessories than boys so planning for enough storage in a small room has been a challenge for both my girls. I bought the highboy along with a matching bookcase from a college student whose mom had painted them for her when she was a girl. They were painted a seafoam green which looked nice in pictures, though paint had become a bit chippy. DD wanted them painted white to coordinate with aqua walls. The finish was fairly good on this and the bookcase, though I did have to sand, paint, prime, etc. I didn't strip the paint, instead used the Bulleye Primer which worked well. Here they are originally: I thought I had a better pic of the highboy the way we had decorated it, but what I did was to get some doll stands for her American Girl dolls and put them on top. Here is a pic with it next to the desk I ended up using: And here is the bookcase: I love vintage rooms and always enjoy seeing others' projects. Your DD's is shaping up very nicely!!

The issue is scale. You can certainly have another pattern in the space as long as it is smaller than the rug pattern (not hard, LOL) and has at least some of the same colors. This would work (in the linen/black combo): ingrid comforter This would be nice: galleria comforter This, tho it looks white, is described as ivory: tessa Instead of replacing the comforter, you could also find fabric you like and make a duvet cover. You can use two sheets, or just fabric. That opens up more possibilities. Just look for fabric that has the colors you need in a different scale pattern. Something like this would work: cartwheel spring tuxedo A larger scale polka-dot would be fun, too. An animal print could work as well. There is this one, which might be a bit of a stretch, but I like how it could bring in some lime or pink to break up all the dark colors: galaxy black
