Is this the picture?

Blue Island Pictures, Images and Photos

Years ago when I found this image it was linked to
Ebeniste in Las Vegas. I am not sure if the Luxury Kitchen
Designer Ebeniste did this kitchen or not. I believe
this was in a designer magazine. I love the floor in
this kitchen, it pulls the cabinetry and the granite
into one gorgeous place to be.

I believe the backpslash tile is honed and made to give
off a soft, matte effect. The only shiny material in this
space is the polished granite but even that looks soft
and soothing.

I hope this helps.

Oh this is great for me too! I have not for the life of me been able to find examples of an arch-top recessed backsplash behind a stove. Here is my work-in-progress.
Recessed Backsplash Getting Tiled
I THINK I have decided against a black granite framing border and will probably go with the same tile as my backsplash will be (a subway pattern tumbled travertine).

Boxerpup, no wonder they call you Angel of the Backsplash! I actually just finished reviewing some photos in your "white Kitchen" album. Glad you sent these others my way. I think mine will wind up similar to the one called "marble backsplash". For the ledge over the stove, I plan to use a piece of the granite they cut to make the hole for the sink. The "Hepburn Newa" one you shared would be the look if I used a trim of "Absolute Black" granite so that helps me.

adh73 Thanks for asking boxerpup about the backsplash. I'm benefitting from the beautiful array.

Boxerpup Thanks so much for putting this together. I'm looking for a calacutta or other marble diamond-shaped tile for backsplash. Artistic Tile has one that is beautiful but budget heavy. I think I may retrain my wishful thinking to a simple marble subway tile. This collection has certainly shown they are just as beautiful, although I liked the uniqueness. Thanks again.

artmeetsscience - check out Deko Tile http://www.dekotile.com/store/Polished-Calacatta-Bianco-Marble-Diamond -Mosaic-Tiles.html They have a diamond shape Calacatta bianco. I do have to caution you that it looks different than their subway Calacatta gold tiles, so order a sample if you are trying to match.

I have been toying with the curved niche idea, but still can't figure out if there is a cost effective way to do the curve.

Boxer, I don't know how on earth you do that! :)

It's like if one merely thinks of a question, you will arrive in their dreams with photos to answer it!

Cali-Wendy,
I enjoy kitchens more than you can ever know. Truly
kitchens make me smile. Even the ugly ducklings for I
imagine the possiblities.

JohnOrange,
You are very welcome, I am glad you are finding ideas.
Your Arch looks promising. Keep going it is going to be
great!

Keep searching, sometimes you can find Tiles that are
lookalikes. Look like Marble but are actually a fake
ceramic or tumbled granite. You might also try Craig's
list or Tile Supply stores to find a fair price. Negotiate
you'll find a good deal.

Your killing me boxer!!! Pictures like that make me think I might want to turn around what I planned.

RE: boxerpup - need photo ID

Boxerpup- thanks as always. I liked the honed backsplash, I was wondering if that focal point was honed or if that had a glossier finish to get it reflect unlike the rest of the backsplash. They seem to no longer have this pix on their site, so what is your opinion? You think its honed there or not? Any guesses on stone? I saw a beautiful limestone herringbone backsplash online too (mission stone) but I looked at a store today and limestone there was blah.

Kitchens are your calling, it seems obvious to me (and I think everyone else!) - next move is yours but figuring out your vocation is half the battle! ;-)

RE: boxerpup - need photo ID

I think the BS might be limestone. The lighting makes it
look glossier than it really is. Here are some limestone,
travertine and marble tiles that might help you create
this look. You might take this image to a tile shop and see
what they can create for you. Or if this is DIY then find
out what kind of tile they think this is. They are the
experts. I might sound like a Kitch guru but I am just
the Kitchen visual girl.
