I made it myself about 3 years ago out of a regular cabinet. I removed the hinges and added the pull out kit, which I believe I got either at Lowes or online. Was a very simple project and works great.

Please ignore the flooring... cabinets... countertop... hardware... it ALL MUST GO! But the trash bin -- that I'll keep.

I've seen that after market one at Lowe's. It looks like it has some kind of spring loaded sides to hold trash can in place? I'm wondering about just sticking a trash can (or two) into a wooden box 6" high without additional support.(My KD is going to make the boxes for me so it's less expensive-ie free- and I think solid maple boxes will look nice too)

Also, I notice you have your knob positioned to match your other cabinet fronts- that hasn't been a problem having it off centre? I'm thinking I will put a pull matching the drawer in the centre- (rest of that run of cabinets are drawers anyways so it should match)

The knob is not a problem, but it's only there because it was already. If I were starting from scratch I would center it.

The can holder isn't actually spring loaded... it's stationary and the can just slides in and out from the top. Overall I'd say the unit is pretty sturdy, even if it's not so stylish when open.

I have a cabinet exactly like this. It is a standard Ikea 15" pull out base cabinet. I've never measured, but the sides are probably even less than 6", though they are in that neighborhood. I have a pull centered on the door. We've been using it almost 2 years with no problems. The can never tips from side to side. The can we have is somewhat shorter than the pull-out and slides from front to back if there is nothing else in there. Fortunately, it is just the right size to hold a box of trash bags, which keeps the can nice and snug. I love it!

If you are willing to go the route of after-market hardware, Rev-A-Shelf makes trash pullouts in various sizes. To determine which one will fit your cabinet:

(1) Determine the width of the cabinet opening-measure it to find out exactly. If you have face frame, it's probably 12" or so; if frameless, it's probably around 15".

(2) Next, check the specs for the various options for one that has a width If you do have face frame cabinets, I think the one that will fit is RV-15KD-2 S, Rev-A-Shelf Pull-Out, 2-27qt. Waste Container.

If you have frameless, you can get one that holds 2-35qt containers RV-18PB-2 S, 2-35 Qt Waste Container w/FE Slides, White.

They both have full-extension slides.

And then, you could install a foot pedal to make it hands-free! (hands-free for base mounted trash cans OR hands-free for rail/shelf mounted trash cans)
