Should a floating engineered floor go under the island?

Hello everyone,

It's time to remodel our 30-year old kitchen.

We are planning to have a floating engineered hardwood floor, but we understand that that doesn't get installed until the very end. However, we are planning an island with granite or quartz on top and an overhang of about 9 inches on one side. The cabinet supplier says it can not be a movable island, and it will have to be fastened to the floor. Does that mean that we install the new floor around the island instead of under it? Does any of you have an island on top of floating engineered hardwood floor?

The floor goes around the island, not underneath it. Then you add a small pencil-width shoe-molding as trim to hide the edge.

Thank you Gina. I guess that when we sell the house and the new home owners don't want an island, they can take the floating floor up and maybe repurpose it somewhere else in the house. We are leaving a (luxury) vinyl tile under the engineered hardwood floor as it said on the website (Bruce) that one can do this, and that floor is in good condition. I'm just bored with it. Anyway, thank you for your speedy answer.
