I hate posts where people whine about things like this, and I normally keep to myself, but are there more ads all of a sudden? I've had to reload my page several times today because it gets stuck loading a pop-up ad. I know different people using different systems will have different answers, but I was curious is something major has changed. I checked my settings and my pop-ups are supposed to be blocked, but maybe that's why it blocks the loading of the whole page. I'm confusing it. :) I'm sure giving a donation to GW will somehow make those ads go away, but that isn't going to happen. I'm too used to FB, Pinterest and such being free to start paying for things. So maybe I'll have to suck it up and deal with the ads. Thanks for letting me vent. Back to your regularly scheduled TKO-ing. :)

I don't know about the ad situation, since I don't see them, but as for this: >my pop-ups are supposed to be blocked, but maybe that's why it blocks the loading of the whole page. Most ad blockers, like the one in firefox, actually must load all the ads anyway. They don't stop them from being there, only from being visible and clickable, so you still have the drag on performance while the ads are loading. There are only a few options for actually preventing ads from loading at all. (I use glimmerblocker, which does this, but I don't think it's available for windows. Sorry I can't suggest a windows equivalent, but I don't know what's good and what isn't.)

That's why Firefox is so incredibly slow. You're confused about the donation thing. GW used to operate on donations. As a matter of fact, I have a few t-shirts from donating over the years. Having been purchased by the evil empire, iVillage, it's now all ad-based revenue. You can't stop it with your money. Just your time and patience. I'd be interested to hear how much they make from click-thrus. I will be absolutely d@mned if I purchase anything thru these ads.

Probably a different issue, but I've been having trouble lately with typing messages to post. I have a pop-up blocker, but lately every time it blocks a pop-up (seemingly every 2 seconds) I get kicked out of typing in the message box. So I type a couple characters and then my cursor is somewhere outside the box. I select where I want to type, get in a couple more characters, then get booted out again. Sometime the whole page scrolls to the bottom of its own volition. It doesn't happen every time, not this time, thankfully. I think it may be associated with one particularly agressive ad, but since it never pops up I can't tell. Anyone else have this issue? I've already reported to GW. I'm still using IE 8.
