They have several really great types of islands.

Have you thought of looking in a used furniture store? You might find a piece that can be painted black. Add a butcher block top in a dark wood, like walnut. I agree with furnone that you shouldn't stain butcher block that is to be used in food production.

I found these and like some of them a lot. What do you think? Which one for my kitchen? I think maybe the cottage kitchen. Or maybe farmhouse? I alsolike the Parsons table. Please give your opinions. It would be black with either a dark top (like the one shown in the farmhouse island) or I could top it with a piece of leftover honed AB that would match the other counters. The Parsons comes in all stained wood including the top. Ebony is the color. I would not be preparing food directly on the tops as I would not want to cut on it. I am the kinda person that wouldn't cut directly on a butcher block top.

Opinions please.

Just wanted to add that High Horse was where I found some inspiration for my design, in particular the Baker's Island table. Funny, when you mentioned black I immediately thought of the black one on High Horse's site, but I think the Baker would look good in black in your space, too.
