Granite - taupe, ivory, subtle and part of great room

We've been searching for granite. We plan to do a medium reddish brown wood floor (Somerset Maple Merlot is our front runner) and kraftmaid maple cabinets (prailine is our current fav). We've been searching for a granite with flow. I really don't want anything that appears overly speckled. Some santa cecelia and giallos appear speckled.

I've been leaning towards ivory coast and typhoon bordeaux. Typhoon bordeaux is so different from piece to piece I haven't found anything I love yet. I know there are several granite lovers on the forum and wanted to see if anyone had suggestions.

The kitchen is somewhat in our great room as well so I want to know if a lot of movement in the granite is a mistake to share that space.

I appreciate any help or assistance. If you think you've got a great kitchen post it - I'm up for suggestions!

Yellow River granite might fit the bill. There is great variation between slabs. Here's a link to a thread with some pics.

I have been performing a similar search to yours. Typhoon Bordeaux is in the running, but my husband has commented that he doesn't like the "pink" tones, so it will be dependent on finding the perfect slab. Sounds like you are in the same boat. And to answer the question about movement...if that is what you are drawn to, of course it isn't a mistake!

I am going to copy and paste a list of warm toned light granites that somebody from GW was kind enough to draft for me. I have only been able to find a handful of them in local granite stores, but it could be some to keep an eye out for when you are looking. Happy hunting!

I think a granite with movement as long as you have
similar colors in the surroundings is perfectly fine.

I like Boxerpups Sienna Cream picture
with that black backsplash and the pretty
mosaic behind the stove. I'm not liking
the bold granite when used on both the
counters and the backsplash, too much of
the same it seems to me.

This is great. I appreciate all of the thought and effort. Granite seems like one of those forever decisions! I know you can change it but I just want to be happy the first time.
I'm looking up pictures on all of the names and seeing what I can find! Boxerpups thanks for all of the great pictures - you've come up with some I haven't come across before and it really helps!
