Do you mean where each cabinet has light and dark stained sections? If so, that can be achieved by using two different woods. We are having cabinets made with maple and alder, and they will look like this.

These are from my kitchen. Not sure if this is what you are looking for. The perimeter is cherry with a cordovan stain. Floors and walls are natural red oak.

The island and the lower cabinet shown below are walnut with espresso stain, sort of a warm brownish black. The upper cab in the first photo is an antique with still a different color.

I know it sounds busy, but I am very happy with the combination.
