White Marble Fans

Alabama White Marble has been mentioned on GW in the past. It's quarried not too far from where I live and my parents have it in their home built in 1984 - marble floors and windowsills. Those of you that would like this gorgeous marble in your home won't have to wait much longer.

This part of the article makes me sad --> "The white marble now being pulled from the ground around Sylacauga is mostly being crushed up as calcium carbonate, a powder used in cosmetics, magazine paper, diapers and other products."

I'm glad the Swindals decided to bring this gorgeous stone back into the construction field where it belongs.

I have wondered why someone local to Alabama hadn't tried to do this. So, it required a foreign investor?

That just kills me. I am located 100 miles from this site. I was at the stone yard this week looking at marble. I asked about Alabama White and Georgia Tate marble. They said it wasn't available or prohibitively expensive. We have loads of buildings in downtown Atlanta covered in the marble and it's beautiful. Why would I buy Italian when I could get this? I hope they are successful.

I am also a die hard fan of white marbles but what irritates me sometimes is, the stains of oil. It becomes difficult to remove them once they have settled and soaked.
