Granite is touted as "bulletproof" but certain common household cleaners, especially toilet bowl cleaners, can permanently bleach out the natural color of the stone. If I could get it back in, I'd be wealthy.

The only disinfecting any sink ever needs is plain soap and water, then allowed to dry. Too many people do overkill with that and end up damaging things beyond repair. You're going to have to find some kind of counter sitting towel holder to go over the spot. Or replace the counters.

Why can't you use the same type of dye to re-color it?

What kind of granite is it? Is it possible that the resin, but not the stone, is damaged? What about that "Ager" fabricators use on some edges to make them match the countertops?

Believe me, I've tried all of the above on stone that's had the color leached out. None of it works.

I just got this call a few weeks back. The repair alternatives were a 6" solid surface escutcheon for a new soap dispenser, or a custom sink with an integrated drainboard and installation to the tune of about 2K.

The potential customer didn't like either and I never heard back.
