are backspashes with fold-down warming shelves weak?

I see the rangemaster/nu-tone ones are sold "reconditioned" at Sears, and the shelves themselves are sold separately at Venting Direct.

Should I be led to understand that these fold down shelves are gonna break?

I see the VAN version has a little ledge under the shelves. Is that designed to counteract the inherent weakness of this kind of thing?

Well I have a lot of nerve calling anything weak.
Backsplash has an L in it and it's Rangemaster/Broan, not Nutone. You probably knew what I meant but apparently I didn't.

Please help me despite myself if you can.
