What is the point of a mitered edge? Are you trying to make it look like 6cm? How thick is the stone?

Unless you're concerned about chipping while cutting the stone, mItering has nothing to do with chipping. The shape of the edge profile does.

Hi Trebuchet,

The stone is 2cm. I just liked the clean mitered look and my impression from the fabricators is that while cutting it on the 45 degrees, it can chip easier vs cutting it straight. But I don't really like the seam in the middle with a stacked look. Any suggestions.

Tell your fabricator you'd be willing to pay to have the bottom of the 2cm stone machined to accept a 2cm lamination. With the right clamps and adhesive color, the joint will be highly inconspicuous, maybe even more than a miter. Have them do a test piece.

If three pros have warned you about mitering that particular stone, I'd probably be inclined to heed their warning. But a test piece is a good idea, for whichever edge treatment you go with. Quartzite can be tricky, and particularly so if there are spots with large grains, like may be the case with the clearish/greyish areas on your slab.

I don't know about epoxies, but I wonder why this one would be different from any other epoxy used with a white stone, whether it's a white granite, or marble, or other quartzite. That doesn't sound quite right to me.

In any case, it's an especially beautiful stone, congratulations on your find! I hope the fabrication turns out well.
