You're gonna have to deal with the problem of the uppers above it. You can't have wood closer than 30'' above the cooking surface, plus the MW is in the way of installing a vent. That's going to be more problematic than the issue with the counters. You need a good kitchen firm in to assess exactly what can be altered to fix that issue

I agree. I have a 30 inch dacor gas unit, but the microwave hood was installed way too low ( not our doing). When we redo the kitchen we plan to put in a hood and add a mw drawer.

Maybe it's the angle of the photo, but that's terrifying. Did they not actually cook? It doesn't sound like you have plans to make a lot of changes. Consider induction instead of gas if you can. It will have less heat going to the microwave and cabinets which appear to be quite close. Hopefully, it's just a photo issue.

That does look scary. Can you post a picture from further back so that we can get a better angle to judge the distance of micro and cabs from the cooktop?

Hi, just discovered this thread and it's exactly the same dilemma I'm facing. Currently have an old 46" Jenn-Air electric cooktop and want to convert to natural gas. I see 46" Gas rangetops, but unsure if that would work. Obviously, the current electric cooktop was just "dropped in" to the countertop opening and it looks like a rangetop is more invasive (and I'd hate to ruin my beautiful granite that was installed 10 years ago).

Any thoughts, comments would be greatly appreciated - thanks!
