| Now now I know many of you just finished your holiday meal for thanksgiving. But now it's time to look forward to Christmas. I actually did my thanksgiving at the house 2 weeks ago so I've had some time to decorate. Here is my kitchen at the moment... |
Follow-Up Postings:
| Nice... I'm totally going to copy your wreaths on windows (don't know why I never thought of that... suich a shame to only have them on the outside door for *other* people to enjoy!) How did you get your garland to stay on your pendant posts? |
| Love the garland idea.......i think it may be copied by many!!! |
| Co-Co it was actually quite easy. It's not real garland so it has wire inside of it. I just hooked the wire onto the ring that holds the drop bar to the bracket at the top. Then I just proceeded to decorate with mini ornaments. |
| Never really thought of decorating my kitchen for Christmas, other than with the baking and other food that 'decorates' the counters so much of the season. But now I just might! Thanks for sharing your pics. |
| How pretty and festive! Great job and very inspiring! |
| gjopp - Looks beautiful! Love the garland and wreaths. My kitchen decorating will most likely consist of demo and dust. Maybe I'll throw an ornament up and see how much dust settles on it. Good thread, hopefully more will contribute their kitchen decorating! |
| rhome: you totally should, it's not too complicated. I figure I'm in my kitchen all the time. My friends and I 'hang out' in the kitchen... they prefer to be close to the beer tap. |
| I'm not sure that when we're all in the kitchen, anyone would even notice decorations, but I'll try it. ;-D |

| So pretty! I might steal the garland idea too. :) But mostly I'm ogling that scrumptious island counter. Stunning! |
| I didn't know I was such an innovator :) |
| Love it! And love the Red Wings ornament--it fits right in with Christmas red. :) |
| No one else decorates for the x-mas season?? Blondie: Gotta love the wings :) got a few more ornaments with their logo on it. My favorite team right there. |
| Nothing???? |

| What a great idea to place garland on the lighting. I always decorated my kitchen because it is (was) the most used room in the house. We are living in temporary quarters and the decorations will be limited due to space. The temporary kitchen will have a few snowmen! I have to say that one "red" ornament could be replaced with a "black" one. Go Hawks! |
| I've always decorated my light fixtures in the kitchen and dining room. Not sure if I have the energy to decorate at all this year. THough, I did put some things on my porch today. My house is still not completely done, my dining room is waiting for the wallpaper installer, then new furniture and drapes can get put in there. THe FR wall color needs changed, I'm waiting for my custom rug and I stil can't decide on coctail tables and entertainment unit. So, for me this year, I think I need to focus on fininishing my rooms before I start seasonal decorating. Bah Hum Bug, that's how I feel this year !! |
| So now I have lights in my kitchen window, thanks to you, and before they got put up in the rest of the house!... I'll try to do more. ;-) |
| motherof3: oooo hockey trash talk on these boards. Let's go red wings! rhome: good good, grab a pic! |
| We spend most of our time in the kitchen/keeping room, so decorations make sense. The fresh tree will go in the keeping room in a couple weeks. I put lights around the kitchen window yesterday (need to get fresh flowers for the vases). Garland on top of the hutch and a lighted manger on its counter. Little things here and there.
and a couple from last year:

| natal: Looks so warm and cozy in your kitchen. |

Not much decorating this year. Did put put some greens on the dining area light. Have some of the village on the divider in the entry, and working on the tree today. ![]() |

| So pretty. I am jealous of those that are invited for a cup of coffee and Christmas cookies! You have inspired me to get my kitchen decorated! (And maybe a trip to TJmaxx!) Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing! |
| The closest I come to decorating the kitchen for Xmas is when the Xmas cookies are baking. Luckily for me, our older ds (almost 10) loves to decorate, so I will see what he has planned. When I was a kid, I was very into decorating and wrapping presents. My mother would let me wrap everyone's but mine. I got that out of my system before our kids were born, so I decorate, but not over the top and mostly for their enjoyment. I am so thrilled our older ds is interested because that is one less thing I have to do. He put up the tree yesterday. I will "let" him do it for as long as he wants. I suspect in a year or 2, he will not be so gung ho. The younger one has no interest, so it will be back on me... |

| Just got back into town, so Christmas decorating will begin this week. I do decorate the kitchen, but I've been looking for new ideas, so keep the pics coming! This is the one time of year that I do go all-out! Right after Thanksgiving my regular dishes get put away and my "winter" dishes come out (Pfaltzgraff's "Snow Bear")...they're used until spring :-) Our FP mantle will soon be brimming with angels, trees, reindeer, and snowmen! The snowmen & trees will stay until the first day of spring! (I grew up in western NY where snowmen were around until April or even, occasionally, May!) The tree will go up as soon as we find time to get one...I like to wait a week or two so the tree will last until January 6, at least! |
| buehl - As you know, all roads lead back to WNY!!! Still in the 50's here now, but that could change in an instant. I'm in Derby (between Hamburg and Angola) - where are you from? Post your decorating when you can! My lights are up ouside, but so far that is it. Needed to get it done...since they might not come down until April/May :)..or whenever the kids snowmen melt! |
| Joyce, I've been trying to think of a way to decorate my dining table chandelier without it looking tacky, and now you've provided a beautiful inspiration!! |
| Joyce: I love the touches you've done, it looks great. |

| hi jgopp... Love everyone's decorating! You've all put me in the spirit...I'm on vacation from work this week, so I plan on decorating too. natal..really like the lights around the window..I will try and copy that! jgopp...love the wreath in the window...but how is it attached? I would like to hang one in my kitchen window, but I don't want to put a nail. Is yours hung on a nail? Thanks for inspiring me again everyone! Happy Holidays to All! KA:) |

| We haven't done any holiday decorating yet. It's our first post-reno Christmas so we are in new territory. Nice to see these ideas-- thanks jgopp. |
| Kitchenaddict: I used the 3M command strip hooks, they don't wreck the paint when you take them off. |

| Very festive jgopp! I love everyone's decorations. |
| More? |
| OK, Jgopp... Not as good as yours, but inspired by you to at least try... We've never had lights in the kitchen or anything decorating the stair railing. This is what I have so far: We got this Nativity set the first Christmas we were married (1985)... But year before last, a raccoon got into our storage room and knocked it down, and this is all that remains... and Donkey has only one ear. At least we still have the Star of the show. :-) |

| rhome your lights look great! oh, poor donkey... hope he can still hear ok... everyone's rooms look so festive! |
| I just started getting out my Christmas decorations. I have a new one this year... for my kitchen wndow. I have not made the Roman Shades for the window yet but I wanted something up there.... so I hung some ornaments. |

| natal, I'm going briefly off-topic to ask the color/name of your granite. (also, I just looked again and noticed your Asian cabinet - nice!) and rhome410, is the surround area of your range green? (I really like it, whatever it is). jgopp, your decorations look great. I love what I've seen of your home. Are there photos of other rooms on other boards at GW? nursetammi, I love your columned island. Did you have load-bearing issues that required columns? LRy511, the ornaments look great (IMHO) without the shade. I like the simplicity against the starkness of the grove of trees. I thought the blue window was my favorite but I just noticed the view out the gold ornamented window! Beautiful! (I am a view addict) joyce_6333, nice balls and greenery against the Craftsman background. Thanks everyone for sharing your photos.
| LRy511, I love that idea! All of our windows but the kitchen are without window treatments. We've always done lights, but I'd never thought of ornaments. Leia, thanks...our range area is light gray...Actually, the same color that's on the walls by the stairs. BM Sabre Gray. It seems to come across greenish in photos on some computers, but not in person. --I don't think, anyway. ;-) |

| Very nice jgopp, it looks so festive and welcoming (your home in general even excluding the decorations). I don't decorate the kitchen but I will think about that differently now. Maybe I can do something in there with the inspiration. Merry Christmas to all! |
| rhome: looking good. leia: unfortunately I haven't posted much else besides my dining room on here. Maybe if another one of those "let me see the rest of your house" threads came up I'd post more. |
- Posted by nursetammi (My Page) on Fri, Dec 2, 11 at 23:33
| leia_in_lalaland We did have load-bearing issues that required a column. We basically took the back brick wall of the house off. The column on the right is load bearing, the other is decorative for symmetry. |

| When I saw the title to this thread I thought I was going to see TONS of pics to inspire me!!! Ok just got all my stuff up and out. Will get up some pics after I am finished setting up for tonights party!! |
| I want to see more pictures as well. I'm just getting started but I'll share a few pics just to keep things going. I'll do wide shot when I get everything in place.I still have the flowers from Thanksgiving on my table. I hate to replace when they are still in such good shape. Here's what I have so far.
| Leia, the granite on the hutch is New Ventian Gold. The other countertop is Kahlua Brown quartz. The cabinet is from Pier 1. |

| Natal - What is the name of the paint color on the wall behind the Christmas tree (in the last photo)? Is that the same paint color that is seen in the other photos? Thanks! |
| So many festive kitchens! this is my Christmas kitchen And what's on the counter to go into gift bags |
| La jan, your toffee looks yummy! Kitchenkrazed, it's all BM Shaker Beige. |
| You are all inspirational... LR511, how did you affix your ornaments? Did you put a tack or something into your window moldings? And Sidney 4, how did you affix the wreath to your cabinetry? I want to do some of these things but am afraid to ruin my new cabinets... thanks! |
| Colorfast: I used tension rods at the top of each window and tied the ornaments up with my DH's fishing line. I did not want to have to fill in holes after I take them down. |
| I am loving all the Christmas treasures. Thanks for sharing the ideas and beautiful creativity. I am still behind on my decor. I was just feeling uninspired and not feeling the spirit until I opened this thread. I can not wait to get started. |
- Posted by nursetammi (My Page) on Sun, Dec 4, 11 at 23:08
| Yes Sidney 4 please tell us how you attached the wreath. That is such a great idea, I would love to put a wreath over my stove area on the cabinetry but like colorfast am afraid to damage the cabinets. If I had seen your picture while I was doing the kitchen I would have asked the cabinetmaker to put an invisible hook there :) Everything you have set up so far looks beautiful. |
| la_jan: is that Marilyn's toffee? That is the best, but I haven't even started on mine yet... |
| gharborwa: no not Marilyn's. I got this recipe off Better Homes and Gardens. It is very simple and best of all, doesn't require a candy thermometer! |

| Thanks LR5, I'll have a look at tension rods when I'm out today! |

| I love seeing everyone's decorations! I tend to get in a rut with what I do one year to another, probably because it is quicker that way. Christmas is a busy time of year for me -- I've got four parties at my house next week, not to mention the extra goings-on at church. But as a person who loves change, I'm always looking for inspiration and new ideas. Here are some pics of some of my kitchen decorations -- as someone said earlier in this thread, might as well decorate the kitchen, it's where everyone always hangs out! Blessings of the season, everyone! --clergychick (Amy) |

| That upper santa there looks exceptionally angry about this holiday season. |

| Nursetammi,Colorfast, I used the clear Command Hooks. I put one on each door. What did I ever do before Command Hooks came on the market? |
| Command hooks are awesome. I assume nails and stuff were the method prior to their invention. Everyone has great decor on this board. Keep em coming. |
| Thanks, Sidney! |
| Wow......I love seeing everyone's Christmas kitchens. Coastal modern your tablescape's are stunning. I'm entertaining next week and you've inspired me! Clergy chick, I would love to see a little more of your kitchen if you care to share. Your back splash is gorgeous! |

| Thanks Sidney and jgopp! I don't really have many shelves or occasional tables so use my island and dining table to display my stuff. For big dinners and parties I set up buffet on my cooktop side of island and use the other side for gathering. It works out perfectly. If the pic quality was better you could probably see the buffet set up. I usually have small wreaths up on my interior windows as well but haven't put those up yet. |
| Amy, thanks, The adaptive use of the old mantle is brilliant. |

| jgopp....I am totally copying you! Love the garland wrapped around the pendant poles! How did you hang your wreath on the window? Very clever! I have not started decorating quite yet...trying to get settled in here. Thank you for some great ideas and for the thread to motivate me! :o) capegirl |
| Capegirl: good good, copy away if you like. I don't mind. Like posted above the 3M command strip hooks are what most people are using to hang their wreaths on painted surfaces. They're awesome. |

| Everybody has been busy! Love all the wreaths and sparkling lights. Are those river birch candles in the FP? I recently looked for some but couldn't find locally. Came back to post the small tree on our island. It's decorated with wooden and paper mache ornaments - several given to us when we married (the day after Christmas) by my aunt and others used on our den tree when the children were growing up.
Kitchy part of my decorating this year - the pitcher and a dozen mugs were painted by a local lady in the early 70s. My dad bought the set for Mom one year. She just recently gave to me, and I know she will enjoy seeing. The three small wooden squares next to feather tree are Christmas games (get the metal ball in the hole) with Santa, a snowman and a reindeer. Kids used to play with them each year. The handprint wreath was made by DS in K, 1991.
Here is a thread in Decorating with more pictures around the house if anyone is interested. Just posted, so scroll down... |

| My bad! I didn't see the page break there I was kind of scrolling quick. I like both homes though :) I got a new camera as an xmas gift to myself and I took this as my first photo with it... but the image is HUGE so I won't post it onto the forum directly, I linked it below. |

| The garlands, knick knacks, and fake candles are decades old from my mom's stash. Huh, maybe "vintage" sounds cooler... The chile lights are a requirement of living in New Mexico lol. Of course, Nature's decorating outside the window is far better than anything I could do! (Sorry, I only have the "before" kitchen at this time) happy holidays! |

| Hi Mellie... I get asked that question soooo often from other GW people..I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond..but I haven't seen it there lately. Your best bet is to look online for something similar...Good Luck! KA:) |

| If no luck at Bed Bath&Beyond, Amazon had a lot of French wrought iron looking decor that I stumbled upon recently. Don't remember if there was a towel holder. |
