shelf under hood

I adore this kitchen!

I am pricing stainless shelves for a similar "shelf under hood" look. I can get one that's all metal (hollow) that's 10" deep. I can get one customized for potentially a lesser depth (I might prefer ~6" deep), but it's manufactured by wrappiing stainless steel around MDF. Should I be concerned about having metal wrapped MDF about 25" above my gas range? Would your answer be different if it was a 6" deep shelf or a 10" shelf?

I think CA code follows this.

I don't know how to interpret it, though, e.g., does MDF qualify as insulating millboard.

Thanks! Yes, I'm also confused as to how to classify a MDF shelf wrapped with metal. I'm also wondering if there's a preferred shelf depth. I've seen anything from 6-11". Really appreciate the reply!
