Please help with kitchen layout

Thank you in advance for your help. we're in the final stages of redoing our kitchen design and i would value your input on our planned design. Since we are tearing down the entire current kitchen, we can change the plumbing, windows or anything else. The home is an open concept. to the left of the kitchen is a dining table with access door to a deck. the lower part of the drawing is our living/family room. we are a family of 4 and live in a casual space. We entertain a lot informally and always have kids around so the kitchen is a very important space for us. I am planning on doing a modern European style kitchen from IKEA with some custom finishes on the island.

The range seems crowded - my old kitchen had just a foot between range and corner, and it was tight. We added a foot in the new kitchen, and it's SO much better! But you don't have much room to the right, because of the big pantry.

If you need the range to stay were it is, I'd do a super susan in the corner, instead of the 12" cab (which would be OK for cookie sheets, but not much else). A susan will eliminate the need for filler.

On the sink wall, the susan allows you to put bigger drawers between sink and corner. I would definitely move the sink to the right, so the drawer stack on the far left can be at least 18".

The upper cabinet to the right of the sink might look OK in an elevation drawing, but imagine how that will look in 3D - hanging out in space a foot and a half from the wall! Either run that all the way to the wall, or turn the corner with an easy-reach.

Thank you. I was thinking about putting the 12" cabinet there for spices, oils, etc. (right next to the range). Your point about the top cabinets is valid and i think what i should do is put a corner of open shelving in that area. I dont mind the small drawer cabinet on the end because its where my husband's coffee area will be so all he will store in there is coffee/sugar/cleaning parts...do you think it would make sense to add a larger drawer cabinet to the right of the sink for a larger prep area? also, do you think the island is too big for the space? there will be additional 10-12" overhand on the left side

I think the upper cabinet to right of sink should either go around the corner or go to the corner. If you can't reach things in it very well, just put stuff there you don't use often.

It's hard to say about the island. Is the wall without cabinets really an open space to another room? If so, an overhang on that side will probably be just fine. If that's a wall, no way.

If you want to follow Marcolo's brilliant yet simple "ice-water-stone-fire" concept for kitchen layouts, and you should, then you do need a prep sink in the island. If should make for better workflow.
