custom refrigerator handle pulls for paneled refrigerator door

folks,

would like to committ to a monogram 42" wide frige/freezer but would like to know if there are other door handles available for those with a custom overlay panel? i know, am not thrilled with the tubular steel they offer . . . . matching the fatter handle on the pro double oven might work . . . . but my dilemma is my drawer pulls are of the cup type (around the kitchen). . . any suggestions or places to search? thank you robert a.

I faced the same dilemma about 6 weeks ago. We'd ordered KA's French door fridge and needed THREE door pulls for it! Yikes, I had no idea they were so expensive! Since I already have a bit of arthritis in my fingers, comfort was my Number #1 concern. I found a recommendation for Hardware Hut (www.hardwarehut.com) here on GW and was amazed at the selection. The prices were the best also. When I narrowed my search, I visited several cabinet showrooms to look and feel the pulls they offered. I ended up picking Top Knobs M-848 18" appliance pulls/handles in the pewter. I also have bin pulls on part of my cabs and wanted to stay away from the industrial look. I also steered away from the pulls that were too thin, had ridiculous uncomfortable additions to them or had ends sticking out that might snag on clothes. We've been using our kitchen now for the past two weeks and I am really happy with the appliance pulls we decided on. Regardless of what initially attracts you, my best advice is to try out as many pulls yourself as possible. I was amazed at how uncomfortable many pulls were. The cabinet front fridge doors are a bit heavy anyway . . . go for comfort as well as good looks.

I just finished up my hardware selection, I found Top Knob to have the most style, but there were several others that had non industrial looking choices, too. ALNO, etc.

THey have a pretty good search engines.

I put 12 inch Top Knobs, Normandy Collection on my 42 inch SubZero with overlay panels. Love it! The rest of my hardware is Top Knobs also. Tops Knobs feel and look wonderful.

Since my refrig and oven were close to each other, (and I liked the oven handles), I ordered two of the oven door handles for my SZ. The rest of my hardware is from Restoration Hardware.

We ordered 2 12 inch handles from My Home Hardware on E-bay, where we also ordered our cabinet hardware. We have a 48inch Sub-Zero with overlay panels and I wasn't sure 12 inch would be big enough, but it is. I believe they were about $55 each in a bronze finish.

I found a blacksmith on eBay that does custom work. We talked on the phone and emailed drawings back and forth to decide on a design and finish. I spent $160, including shipping, for 3 long handles for my Jennair FD.

What was the contact info for your blacksmith? We would be interested in getting some custom handles to match something from RH

He has since retired. I just found him by searching for blacksmiths in my state. Look in more rural areas. Perhaps start with folks that do horse shoeing or technical colleges that teach welding or metalworking courses. They can probably point you to somebody. Good luck!
