Corner pantry w/ floor-to-ceiling lazy susan?

Posted by brickhouse (My Page) on

We are in the planning stages of a DIY kitchen 'restyle'. We are painting the oak cabinets, moving some cabs, adding an island and knocking down some walls to open up the kitchen to the dining and family rooms.

In knocking down the walls we will lose the walk-in pantry. While we will be adding storage space with the addition of a big island, I still need a pantry of sorts.

My idea is to do a corner pantry cab with a floor-to-ceiling lazy susan. Anyone done it or have a pic of one?
Any cabinet company that makes one?
Thanks!

I'd strongly prefer L-shaped adjustable-height shelves.

Before I go to the grocery store, I generally head into the pantry and take a visual inventory to see what I need. On shallow shelves, it's all in view and easy to see. On a lazy susan, you'd see maybe a third of it at a time? So if all of your shelves turned together, you'd only have to rotate the lazy susan once or twice to inventory. But if the layers were independent, what a lot of whirling! Not to mention the 'fall over' fun...

Lazy susans aren't particularly efficient storage. When you add that to the difficulties of a moving mechanism, it's probably worth considering other solutions before setting your mind on one.

If you have even 4' on each side of the corner you can have a very nice step-in pantry. Have you checked the pantries thread?

Lazy susans can be a necessary evil in a corner base cabinet, but way too much of a bad thing at full-height for me. Interesting idea, but how would you see into the upper shelves? I'm with Sweeby on the L-shelves, and at 12-16" deep. Only I chose my shelf positions carefully before they went in, knowing I'd never adjust them after they were full, and I like the sturdiness of stationary shelves.
