We used salvaged shelves from elmwood in our kitchen.

We got simple heavy duty L brackets from the hardware store and screwed them inot the studs. We then drywalled over them so it looks as if the shelf is floating. The brackets were a silver color but we just put some stain on them so that they blend with the wood.

pps7 thank you. that looks beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. That color blue really looks great. I was originally going to do floated but since the placement of everything was tentative when we ripped out the walls, I went with keep it simple "we'll deal with it later". Also one of the walls where I am placing them from floor to ceiling had plaster that couldn't be chipped out.
I will put the brackets into the wall when I get a house though...
I can't wait to buy and get these shelves up so I can find all my dry goods. One thing at a time though...first I need to take care of the counters and can't do that until I buy an undercounter fridge...
Did you have them scrape them to bring up grain ?(it is add'l charge)

Hi, I'm also planning on Elmwood shelves. What depth are you using? Etsy has some nice hand forged brackets that I thought might look nice with them. My taste leans to the plain- jane side of things.

We Did 12" so that we can store dinner plates.

I can fit 10" wide.
