joining ikea butcherblock

Hello all,
My kitchen counter length is 8'3". My already-purchased IKEA countertop is 8'. I have another length of IKEA countertop with wastage.
Can I glue 3" on to the end of the 8' length with a butt join? Or am I contradicting the laws of woodworking?
Thanks for any input... I need to do this today, so any advice would be gratefully received!

Yes, you can glue it on. I'd use a Titebond 2 and drill and countersink screws to clamp it on.
