Extra deep base cabs?

Renovating a high rise condo. We want to move sink over 32". Water stack drain, vent, hot and cold water is in the way. We were thinking of building a 3" pony wall (just as high as the base cabs) so that the sink pipes can be run without interfereing with existing stack. The result is that our countertop will be 29" deep instead of 26". Upper cabs will be 15" deep so they will still be accessible. We are mounting electrical outlets a bit lower at 44" to the top so that the reach over the countertop is ok. There will be plenty of room behind sink for faucet. Any other issues you can see?

We could build the pony wall in the bedroom closet which is just behind the kitchen. We did not want to cut into closet space though.

Any other suggestions or comments appreciated!

Your question shows a basic lack of understanding of the plumbing codes. You need a licensed and insured contractor and plumber to assess the job and perform the work, if possible. Plumbing codes are health codes based, and you cannot move plumbing around wholesale without having the proper rise and run and ventilation. Multi family dwellings have much stricter requirements for building codes and who can work on them than single family homes. In a SFH, if you flood it or burn it down, it only affects you. It affects multiple neighbors in a multi family dwelling. And they can sue you for affecting their dwelling negatively.

We have had three bids from licensed plumbers. All said we could move the sink over up,to three feet. They thought the pony wall would allow them ample room to run the pipes and sink drain from the new sink location over to the main stack very easily.

Sorry but I cannot picture the current and future locations of sink, pony wall and closet....but I am generally in favor of extra deep cabinets so long as it does not impact the needed aisle clearance (and is to code).

The need for the "pony wall," as opposed to cutting the waste stack, and inserting the fitting to change the direction , drilling and sleeving the studs, seems unnecessary.

Agreed. We thought the pony wall would make sure we did not have to cut into the cabinet bases to run the plumbing outside the highrise condo water wall stack.

If the closet wall is a studded non-supporting wall (almost surely since you state this is a high-rise), why not use the wall cavity space instead of useable floor space?

And thats why it may not be necessary. The reluctance to the pony wall would be the necessity for a 1/4 and at the min., another 1/8th bend.

What will be the true arbiter, will be the condition found at the exposure of the wall cavity, It may be so convoluted as to render the pony wall as the only alternative.

I can't follow the plumbing saga.

However, deeper counters are good. Many people here do 30" counters on purpose.
