Well, if you have an Ikea nearby, their Grundtal rail system works well. You can have hooks or baskets or even a shelf or two hanging from it to organize however you need it to be.

I have a rail system and a colored crock of utensils. The crock is there mostly because my kitchen needed some color. We mounted the rail with Command hooks about a year ago because we were shy to drill through the backsplash. Now that we decided we like it, perhaps we'll get brave enough to drill someday.

Ninety percent of my utensils are in top drawers now, but I have an old copper vase with a few utensils to the right of my range top. Its color reflects the other copper metal pieces in the room:

My favorite utensil holder is a large terracotta flower pot my ds painted when he was in preschool.

I have zillions of utensils and I like my favorites handy on the counter. I like the OXO black and stainless looking holder - it has 3 compartments and holds a lot of utensils. Of course you never know, someone may post one that I'll like even better and have to put on my Christmas list.

My Mom is trying to move away from countertop clutter so she is trying these Knape & Vogt inserts. She has one by the stove and another by the prep\baking area.

I live in a small apartment so I use one of the Ikea rail systems (my kitchen only has 2 drawers).
