Definitely not too deep...go with 15"!!!

We have the standard 24" (+ overhang) deep base cabinets and have a mix of 15" & 12" deep uppers. The 15" uppers hold platters and other deeper items that never fit in my old 12" deep uppers.

I agree with buehl. I have 24" lowers and 15" uppers. Not at all too deep and very useful.

My plates don't even fit in my 12 inch cabinets. I forgot to measure so I had to put them in a drawer. Definitely go with 15s, especially if ou have extended depth on the bottom.

I was a kitchen designer for many years. If you have the ability make some 12" and some 15". You will find the 15" deep cabinets too deep for smaller items and may find that things get cluttered. Great idea !

New lurker here and in the planning stages. . . please educate me. Are 15" uppers available through most cabinet manufacturers or are they a custom job only?

Many of the cabinet manufacturers offer 15" upper cabinets. You will just have to check each company's offerings.

My uppers are all 12" and they are really shallow. I can only fit 3 of our drinking glasses (which are average size) in each row. The spice cabinet is super crowded. And if you store large baking staples, like sugar and flour, in large containers, you will find them very lacking.

Go with a combo of depths if you want a staggered look, but you will be much happier if the vast majority of your uppers are 15" depth.

My base cabinets are the standard 24" (+ overhang) deep and all my uppers are 14". My cabinet maker suggested 14" instead of the standard 12" in order to fit platters, etc.. I'm not in my kitchen yet, but they look great!
