I'm no expert but with your counters my opinion is bigger tile and match the grout to the tile.

Since your counter has sort of a small pattern, I prefer small tiles to go with it.

What if you have a mix of the two sizes -- some rows big, some rows small? That'd be a little more interesting, and it'd mitigate some of the busy-ness you are concerned about.

You can use white or light gray grout. The light gray can give a softer look, although it is hard to tell how much gray is in your counter. I like the smaller tiles. How well do the two sizes layout without much cutting? Are all the tiles creamy white or stark white? You may want to choose grout that blends with the tile. There really is no wrong way to do this, but is really your choice. Is there someone else with you to give you a second opinion? Sorry, so hard to tell true colors on a computer. I like the bigger tiles. I would match grout to tile. Very pretty stain on your cabinets.

They are stark white. The counters have a good mix of light gray and tan. The decor in my kitchen is mostly warm colors and brown woods. So I'm wondering if a gray woukd flow together well. Every kitchen I see with the gray grout usually has white cabinets.

The white looks good on my moniter but if it is too bright white, look for a warm white/ivory. I agree with the others that said match the grout to the tile.
