Would a 7 slot knife tray work? Or, do you need a knife holder at all?

That does look smaller.

If I don't use a knife holder, what do you recommend I do? I don't want to let my knives get dull. Will letting them be free in a drawer do that? And, I've got a baby who'll grow up to probably be obsessed with getting into my drawers.... so it seems like a knife holder would be good.

When I had less space, I used knife sleeves.

I love our smaller drawer knife block from IKEA.

Target carries one in their stores that will hold 5 larger knives and 5-6 smaller knives and is only 6-7 inches wide. We have had ours for two years and love it.
