Rift Sawn Oak - Now with Walnut

The other side of the kitchen. I came home tonight and the final foot print of the cabinets were in. I felt like I was in a jewel box, it feels so cozy. I have an eat in area in front of the peninsula.

The cabinets were Amish built in Southwest Wisconsin. They are solid slab rift sawn oak, with a very light stain to keep the color consistent over time. I requested that the grain matches from top to bottom, and that the slab glue up be done with the widest boards possible.

I worked with an interior designer who took my idea book on Houzz with over 200 pics. She came up with the design, provided the specs to the cabinet maker, and sourced the all the labor.

The fridge surround and oven cabinet are solid oak. The oven cabinet fits into the master surround. That surround is a box in a box like the shelves.

The book shelf is solid walnut. The cabinet maker put in brass grommets for the shelf pegs.

And the hood surround.

The counter top is scheduled to go in on 11-18.

Walnut - yum! Your cabinets are gorgeous. I like the mix of cabinet heights and materials on the one wall. I'd love to see a closer picture of the hood surround -- it looks like a cool shape. I can't wait to see the finished kitchen.

The shelves were "rested" on the brackets today. You can see a slice of the walnut crown molding in the right corner of the pic.

My b/f and I are in awe of your kitchen, and the workmanship of the Amish. I absolutely am in like with with your wood, just want to touch it.

Oh, the grain on the back of that walnut cabinet is just gorgeous! Your kitchen is looking very interesting, can't wait to see it all together.... keep posting!
