Show me your hoods....and the knick knacks.

Hi all - I have a little shelf above my cabinet hood and not sure what type of knick knacks to put up there. I don't want it to look cluttered but thinks it needs something.

Does anyone have any close up pics to share of their hoods (with a shelf).

I have a box out behind my stove and it has a shelf. I put my olive oil (in a nice bottle) my pepper grinder and some other containers with kosher salt in them. Here is the link to my kitchen but you will need to scroll down to see the knick knacks.

Thanks Willowdecor. My shelf is on the wood hood cabinet so it should hold maybe vases, or small artwork, just not sure....so if anyone else has pictures, please post!!

    Thanks.

This pic was taken pre-clutter..... Now, I have lots of candles on the ledge behind the range, plus my garlic pot.

    Hi Allnew,
I have a big hood (too big for the room actually) with a shelf. I'm not sure if it's similar to what you're looking for. I just threw some things up there that I had around the house. I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep it casual or more formal and symmetrical. I've noticed some kitchens with framed prints on the shelf or a few groupings of things like oil cruets or baskets, decorative candle holders, etc. I chose to keep mine casual, anything else would have required that I spend money so.....
I'm sure I'll change these things out someday when I come across something I like better but I haven't really had a chance to look.
The best pics I have of the hood area are in the link. I tried to find them in my photobucket account but they're buried. Based on your question, is it safe to assume you're almost finished your kitchen???????

Lol Florantha, do we "put up" or do we "accessorize"?

Allnew, this thread turned out great! Lots of eye-candy. I had to will myself not to buy another kitchen magazine at the supermarket this afternoon, now I'm getting my TKO fix after all.

I'm calling my stuff revisiting my childhood. Grandma bought it, mom threw it out, I bought it back.

Hmm. revisiting - I have a deep pie dish that is pretty and seldom used that would sit well on such a shelf. Washing it before each use would be only five minutes a year. I do NOT like the idea of dried flowers over a cooktop. Impossible to get grease off, and so so flammable. I do have a set of glass jars with a good seal, they would look nice filled with contrasting color. Oats, or thistle birdseed, or dried red pepper.

Gah! I just KNEW I shouldn't have cut that enormous horse head out of my budget ...

  • grlwprls

Here's mine. It's a temporary set-up, but I just needed *something* up there. Since we don't get a traditional fall in New Orleans, I just needed something that reminds me of autumn and harvest.

And yes, that's brass. And, yes, I need better lighting for pictures!

  • formerlyflorantha

circus_peanut, I'm sure that now that you have had your taste suitably upgraded, you can find the money for another horse head, or moose, or ... well, the options boggle the mind! You go, girl!

But circus_peanut, you'd need a small field of grass on your harvest table for the enormous horse head. I guess it bends down to graze occasionally.

I think the horse head needs a bump. Thanks for the laugh.
