Decorative Tile Accent above Sink AND Stove?

We are considering having a decorative tile accent with a border placed above the sink (there is no window) to break up the backsplash a bit - something very simple, using the same tile as the backsplash but a different pattern orientation. The rest of the backsplash is on the diagonal so this would be some sort of pattern inside the border in small squares or something.

Im also thinking of something similar (but smaller) over the slide-in stove. Has anybody done this in both places? Any pictures youd care to share? Just wondering if this would be too much. All opinions welcome!

I've not seen that and I could be persuaded otherwise but my initial reaction is that it would be too much unless the sink and the stove were very far from each other. That said, I'm a firm believer in doing what YOU like, so if it looks good to you, that's all that matters.

I can't imagine doing a sink niche BS and leaving the range niche BS blank, or the range and not sink!

I've seen little accents sprinkled about with larger ones over the sink and range and as long as everything is tasteful, it's perfectly fine. It sound like yours is a change in pattern but not material? That would be very elegant I think, and a nice way to do things.

I did that in our kitchen and I think it looks good.

Thanks so much everyone! Your kitchen is beautiful, WhiteRiver, and the accents look perfect over both. Mine is only a change in pattern, not material (except for the border) but I'm leaning towards doing both! Thanks again!
