I have a similar problem. My window is 74 inches wide over a large sink. One problem I have is that the bottom of the window is almost even with countertop. I love the look but turns out that splashes from the sink show up on the window. They are small splashes but the real problem is that whatever window covering I use, there will be splashes on the window covering.

My window consists of a casement window one on each side of a fixed window. Currently, I'm thinking of using three rattan venetian blinds with a rattan colored cornice horizontal on top. I want the cornice so I can mount the venetian blinds above the top of the window so that I'll have as much window as possible showing beneath. I don't want to hide any of that light except when the light is at its peak (it's a west window and in our part of the country, i.e. the south, that can be a LOT of light.).

Hopefully I'm not hijacking your thread. My question is whether a cornice is too "dated". I've seen some pictures on Houzz but that doesn't really mean they are a good idea.

I thought the honeycomb shades would collect the splashes and be more difficult to clean than rattan venetian blinds. Have you got any preliminary ideas to share?

I think roller shades can be a good idea in a kitchen. There are some really nice looking ones out there now so you can avoid the "dingy sheet of plastic" look!:) Ease of cleaning is why I would choose them. I had them in a previous kitchen, but unfortunately now I have a windowless kitchen:( I think Venetian blinds could look okay but they will be harder to clean and will collect more grime. Just my 2cents!

Here's a picture of shades that don't look like traditional shades - instead have a natural look. May be hard to clean but I love the look.
