REPORT: Buying Sink and Faucet online

Posted by jbnyc (My Page) on

Hello Everyone,

For about a month now I have been searching this forum, talking with members and receiving great advice on buying our sink and faucet for our remodel. As a result I have made my purchase and received my goods. I wanted to share with you the experience in a hope it will help someone.

SINK: The question was no-name sink vs. brand name. After a lot of research and help of forum members we decided on an 18x18 (exterior) zero radius no-name sink. It arrived early this morning and I could not be happier. It is as good if not better than all of the name brand sinks I've seen (in person) the site I purchased it from claims that their sinks are 15 guage. I was not sure I believed it. It so happens my Father-in-Law is a mech. engineer and has some little gizmo that measures steel guage. He has confirmed that it is indeed 15 guage. All parts.

Now, onto the site. I got it from Builder Spec www.stainless-sink.com. What is important to note that I called them on Wednesday to verify that they had one in stock. They did. It shipped that day and arrived early this morning. I spoke with Rebecca and she spent time on the phone with me to answer all my questions. Very Very Pleased. Price: 269.99 no tax free shipping.

FAUCET: This was easier as we knew that we wanted the Grohe 32319e Minta Kitchen Pull Down Spray in super-steel. I searched for the best deal out there and found it at www.HOMEPERFECT.com. As with the sink, I called first to verify that they had what I wanted in stock. They did. Now, I'll stay their Customer Service was a bit shaky but I ordered it on Monday and it came Wednesday. We went with the super steel which was more expensive than the chrome. We paid $363.48 for it (no tax outside NY and free shipping) on average, most sites are selling it for $420.

I hope this helps anyone looking to either get a great sink or a good deal on a faucet. Just Remember, it is critical that you call first to verify that it is in stock.

Thanks for the info jbnyc! I had put a shout out a while back to see if anyone had any experience with Builder Spec. There was a sink I really wanted, but I went with the Ticor instead due to people here saying how great they are, and no one could vouch for the BS.

I'm thinking now about the fact that you stay with a sink for a long, long time. Otherwise, you will need new granite too! I'm sorta regretting the Ticor decision because of the mirror shine on the divide and reveal. I know it will scratch horribly.
So glad you had a good experience!

How do you like your faucet as I have ordered exactly the same one, same finish everything - sight unseen *yikes* :)
Do you think the finish matches a ss sink (I assume so as you ordered it LOL)

Thanks and congratulations on a fantastic price.

Piaa:

Love the faucet. When you put it in your hands you can feel the quality and the weight. We're really, really pleased with it. I think the super steel is going to look great with the SS sink. In fact, I'm going over right now to put them side-by-side.

RE: REPORT: 1 Buying Sink and Faucet online

jbnyc, I want to thank you so much for your report. It was a time saver. I ended up buying a ss from builders spec. Rebecca was wonderful to deal with and the sink is so strong. I cannot believe how solid this ss is. Love my sink, and especially the deep basket. Great prices! Thanks for saving me all that research time.

jbnyc,
I was so excited when I read your thread today as I suddenly realized that I need my sink and faucet within 3 weeks so as to not slow down progress in my kitchen reno.

Unfortunately, I need a 30 inch undermount sink and the only one that is on Builders Spec does not have a grid as an accessory and I need that.

Anyone know of any other good online sink seller? TIA.

On to HomePerfect to look at faucets. Thanks again for the thread. This website is the best.

I don't know if this will help but I just bought a Kraus 32'' undermount single bowl at Express Decor for $318. They have a 30'' for the same price.

I don't have a place to put the sink but it is exactly what I wanted. I love the finish on it. It came with the strainer, a grid and a towel (woo hoo). You have to use code NY15 at checkout. Free shipping too.

Hope this helps.

I like the look of it, odiegirl13, not to mention the price. Did you get it yet? How quickly do they ship?

Thanks.

RE: REPORT: Buying Sink and Faucet online

I ordered it January 27 and received it yesterday. It was packed pretty well and was not damaged. I thought it was going to be too deep but I think it is going to be perfect for me. I currently have a very shallow double bowl. Ahhhhhh...

Hooray! I sure hope I did not lead you astray on this one. I absolutely can't wait to throw out my old sink. I am pretty lost as far as making a decision on a faucet though.

I think I need to figure out how to decorate around the sink in its current home in the living room in case it does not have a home by next Christmas. ;>)

RE: REPORT: Buying Sink and Faucet online

Hi All,

Thought I would share my experience with buying a undermoung ss sink online. I was very skeptical when I saw the price and the special that was included.
I found it on Ebay from Sink Direct. I received it in a few days and was very pleased with it. It also had the noise coating on the bottom of the sink and it included one ss sink grid.....all for $145.00

Here are a couple of faq from the site:
A:There is no retail markup; you are purchasing the product directly from the manufacturer. All of our undermount stainless steel kitchen sinks are cUPC Certified to be 16 gauge. A copy of our certification is available upon request.
Q:Do you have this offset sink in a reverse model?
A:Yes, we do have reverse models available on our eBay store. Just search in titles and descriptions by model number (found in the item description).

RE: REPORT: Buying Sink and Faucet online

Hi All,
I just want to tell you about my experience with Kraus,
We purchased the sink, faucet and soap dispenser combo for around $650 no tax. We are very please with the purchase; so far everyone that sees it is impressed.. The sink in nice and deep and the faucet is also very nice, 100% solid stainless steel, led free, UPC certified and works great, what else can you ask for. The sink came in a large box and was packed in a large felt like bag, very impressive and the faucet came in it's own package, packed in a form type box with separate compartments. (It was like opening a Christmas package), We looked at sinks that were much more costly and it looks like Kraus is right on top with their product.
We got it from overstock, but expressdecor now seems to have better prices 10%-15% off for the same combos.
Hope it helps
Alen

Great news, alen_garden. Thanks for validating my choice. I asked my plumber his opinion and he felt it was fine.
He did say that for faucets, he recommends getting a well-known name brand faucet that you can easily find parts for locally since leaks won't wait....

RE: REPORT: Buying Sink and Faucet online

This is my experience.

Checked area stores for undermount sink and new faucet to go with our granite that will soon be installed. We currently have a black above mount granite sink that my wife as never really cared for. I think the sink as been fine. But anyways, after checking stores we were looking at about $500-550+ tax for the sink and around $200+ tax for the faucet.

I then got online and started the search since Im a anal about getting the best price for a decent product. After days of searching this is what we ended up ordering.

Both products were off of Ebay. Type in Q11 sink and you find a 32 inch undermount stainless zero radius 16 gauge sink for $199 with free shipping. The sink arrived and it appeared to be the same sink I saw at the stores in town down to every detail. The other inline stores that deal with sinks were still $100 to $200 more for similar sinks.

The faucet was the Kohler Forte stainless steel #R10433-VS. Got it for $130 with shipping.

I spent $340 for both and would of paid about $760 at local stores for the same things.

I have ordered a lot of things on-line and have never been disappointed yet. Just take time and do your research first.

RE: REPORT: Buying Sink and Faucet online

I just bought a stainless steel bar sink on eBay from Sink Direct which is the same as MR Direct. The sink was $80 including shipping and one strainer - about half the price as a comparable sized Ticor sink from Galaxy Tool Supply. Also MR Direct's website says that the finish on the reveal on all their sinks is a brushed finish, which they say hides scratches better - important for some people who choose double bowls. The sink arrived well packaged in great shape. It won't be installed for at least a month, but I will enjoy looking at it until then!
