Stained my granite countertop...need advice on using poulstice

Recently had granite countertops (gallo ornamental) put in...I ignorantly allowed plumbers putty to be used to secure the new faucet. I now have a dark stain in the granite surrounding the faucet...maybe extending .5-1 inch around the faucet. I've done some research...it appears the plumbing putty caused an oil based stain.

Anyway, I am getting a poulstice from my granite installer today (http://www.baneclene.com/catalog/extract.html). Anyone have any experience doing something like this? I think the stain seeped into the granite through the drilled hole for the faucet...the top of the granite is perfectly smooth and seems sealed...just stained looking.

How can I remove the granite sealent before applying the poulstice? Or is this necessary (will it work through the sides of the drilled hole or should I apply on top where the stain is visible)?

And what product should I buy to properly secure my faucet once I fix this (silicone caulk maybe?)?
