I know some people feel very strongly about not using bleach on food surfaces, but my grandmother always used bleach on her marble counter and sink to take out food stains. The marble was scratched and dinged, but pretty white. I would test a small sample before going hog wild with the bleach, though.

I have not had any stains on my Carrara, but saw that the area directly around the base of my faucet was getting discolored (mostly in the back of the faucet.) Gag! So I got a Q-tip, dipped it in bleach, and carefully applied it to the marble. It went back to its pristine grey/white color with no etching or problems. I've never tried it on any other area, simply because I haven't needed to...but if I had an ugly stain I would try it. Even if it etched, that would be a lot better than a stain.

I soaked some clothes in oxiclean in a stainless bowl in my kitchen sink overnight a couple of months ago. (Bathroom sinks were not holding water at the time.) The oxiclean etched my Carrara when I set it on the counter for a few minutes. I didn't realize that the bowl had gotten jostled around and that the oxiclean had spilled over the sides. Oops.

Btw, the etch this made has faded quite a bit since the initial accident, as happens with many of the etches in my marble. Still, I'm not going to let oxiclean on my marble again. And, almost 3 years later, I have zero staining anywhere on my Carrara. Not even black icing colorant stains permanently.

Breezy, do you remember what your carrara was sealed with? Have you sealed it since it was installed?

Hi Linelle! I sealed my Carrara with Miracle 511 impregnator sealer at install almost three years ago. I have not re-sealed since. I haven't seen the need. Nothing stains, despite my couple mentions of small stains in the forum years ago. Those spots I thought were stains faded in a couple of days. I have zero staining, but lots of etching. Hope that helps!

Just to clarify about two distinctly different products.

Oxiclean may be bad for calcuim stones but there is a product called Easy Oxy that was formulated for marble by two of the best stone restoration experts in the country. Easy Oxy works great on all stones and almost any other surface including carpet stains.

Remember Easy Oxy good... Oxiclean bad! (for stone)
