I have not done it but sure you could. I definitely prefer that look over the angled cab. Just my preference.

Do it all the time. Usually one is a blind corner that goes behind 9", filler 2" min on the second leg.

Trying to work with pre-owned. That's why I'd like to do butted together rather than ordering a blind corner.

What you'd have is a completely closed off corner (like some of us do with base corners). But unlike a base, you won't have a countertop closing it off forever.

I'm wondering if there is some way to use that hidden nook somehow...

Obviously it isn't easily accessible, and you'll probably want a base to it, but that base could be hinged, so something could go up there. A box of valuables? Your private stash of dark chocolate?

'Your private stash of dark chocolate?' That's it! That's the perfect use of the hidey-hole, hee, hee! I'm picturing a reverse mockett that springs downward with a slight push on the bottom, but maybe that'd be too complicated. More chocolate would help me think it through clearly. ; )

I think I'd just stick a knife magnet in the hole so my relatives would never find my GOOD knives! :)

How much spacer you need depends on the knobs as well as how much overlay you have. And of course what's your tolerance for filler (and do you have something you can use for filler that will look good) and do you feel you really need to open them all the way...

If you have them already, can you arrange them on the floor and see how much you can get away with?

The cabinets in the corner of that photo look too tight to open properly. I wonder if they actually function.
