I'd suggest buying them both and having someone stand on the peninsula holding them. You can always return one if it seems like too much.

I don't think so -- you are filling 21" out of 58", so it's roughly 1/3 pendants - 2/3 open space, but you are the one who needs to be satisfied. When uncetain, a mock-up helps (my DH needs them for everything) -- get a paper plate or cut out a similar sized circle from poste rboard, tape some string to it, mark the height of the pendant, (make 2 if you need to)then tape to the ceiling and stand back. Looks like the shade is semi-transparent and light in color, so the aren't going to be a very strong presence. That let's you go a little larger than if they were dark, very heavy or bright colored.

Definitely create a mock up and hang it down in the actual space - we used white plastic garbage bags with air in them. Love the lights!
