Looking to remodel kitchen, where to get design plans..

Anyone know of good places to turn to. Anyone here good at it? Not sure I trust the 20yr old at Menards or Lowes and not looking to spend $$$ on a super professional.

Here is my current setup (click on pix for larger):

I would like to remove the wall between the kitchen and great room (or as much as I can) and make it open. I think just using the kitchen and dining space together to make one giant kitchen.

Thanks so much!

Read the new to kitchens thread posted by Buehl and then post your layout and info.

"I would like to remove the wall between the kitchen and great room "
Your photo shows that it already is, or do you want a flat ceiling.
Is your house a single or 2 story"

debrak2008: will do

There is an extended opening between the dining/great room. I want to remove more of that wall between the kitchen and great room.

My house is a ranch with a partially (most) finished basement. The great room has vaulted ceiling, dining has tray, and kitchen has normal.

You are going to need a structural engineer.
A good, knowledgable draftsman could prepare the plans for you.
Some general contractors have them on staff.
Good fishing.
