Island extractor fan no joist

In our kitchen the extractor fan has been attached directly to the dry wall ceiling as there where no joist above where it needed to be. The fitter used toggle bolts.
It's now been 1 month and the ceiling has started to cracking around the fan, and come away slightly what should i do?
I thought of replacing the original toggle with larger one to decrease the pressure but I'm not sure
