Rohl Shaw Sink -- 30" curved front, or 36" straight front?

We originally planned for a 30" integrated single-bowl soapstone sink, and just changed our mind to a 30" or 36" Rohl Shaw single-bowl fireclay sink, as we think a white sink will look better in our kitchen, with white fridge, natural maple cabinets, etc.

We went to the plumbing store today and saw two Shaw sinks. One has a curved front, while the other has a straight front. The sink with the curved front is 3" deeper (front to back) than the one with straight front (approx. 18" vs. 15").

We initially thought the straight one looks a little prettier. Then the sales person pointed out the extra 3" depth might be nice to have, for washing large items.

I checked Rohl's website -- the curved front sink doesn't seem to go any wider than 30", while the straight front goes up to 36".

So the question is, which choice is better, 30" sink with curved front (i.e. extra depth), or 36" sink with straight front? We have room for a 36" sink, and the cabinets will be custom made to fit.

I prefer the 36" with straight front. First, because I like the appearance of the straight front better--no reason, I just prefer how it looks. Second, I find it more useful to have the 6" width side-to-side than the 3" extra depth. Third, the 3" extra depth is only in the very center; as the curve gets toward the edges, there isn't much extra depth there. Just MHO!

I like the looks of the sink in the very first picture. The curved sink bothers me, visually.

I've had the 30" straight front Rohl for 10 years now. The only thing I would like better is the bigger one.

That sink can be bumped out, essentially pulled forward in the sink cabinet. Its very comfortable that way as there is no leaning in.

Agree w/ Sahmmy . . . straight front has my vote (but I have the Rohl's 40" straight front farmsink :)

We will go with the 36" straight front sink then. We do like it more than the curved one. We will just need to make sure that we don't buy any cookware larger than 15" diameter. :)

The interior of mine is about 15-1/4" and most everything fits including 8-quart soup kettle and the wall oven roasting pan.

Also would recommend a sink grid when you purchase the sink. $$$ but worth it and protective.

rococogurl, thank you for the details! The largest item we have at the moment is a 12" chef pan. We plan to add a 14" wok, which will fit in the sink. :)

Yes to the sink grid! Husband thinks the stainless steel version looks like dental braces, LOL. But he is convinced that we need to get one (probably the white version) -- the sales person told him that the grid not only protects everything, but also makes washing much easier as the food chunks / etc will just fall below the grid while the clean items stay above the grid.
