My drawer cell recharge ctr w/pictures

Hello all just thought I would share my cell phone charge drawer setup for others who are trying to keep counter clutter down in their new kitchens.

In my small tall kitchen I have a little drawer above my little trash pull-out next to the sink. In the first picture you will see the electric on back of the 15" cabinet. In the second picture you will see how we are running a flexible waterproof electric line to the inside back behind the drawer. The third picture shows (partly, we still have to drill hole in drawer for connect) a 9" angle plug strip from task lighting for the cell recharge. The forth picture shows the flexible waterproof line that will be located behind drawer on inside of cabinet and will have an anchor at bottom similar to what you would see at the bottom of a pull-out faucet under sink, the line will move with drawer when opening and shutting (hopefully).

Nice setup! That's a great use for the drawer above the trash. I know it's protected, but I didn't want to put linens or utensils in that drawer. Yes, there's a solid wood divider b/w the trash & the drawer, but still... We put our junk drawer there, but yours is even more functional!

Nice job! Be sure to show us pics of the "finished product"!

Thanks buehl, oh we will have junk in there too. I plan to get a long skinny wooden box in there to keep the junk and cells separated.

jterrylyn! that's a good idea.

We are trying to design something similar, but in a cabinet instead of a drawer. (The toothbrushes won't fit in the drawer and current bathroom doesn't really have a good spot for recharging them)

Thank you for taking the time to post this. We are running the rough electric this weekend to do this very thing. You have made it so clear how it should be done with your step-by-step photos. We hadn't thought of the waterproof wire. Great idea. We had actually thought of putting a weight on the wire so hopefully it would drop back behind the drawer instead of into the drawer below it. What type of weight were you planning to use and how were you planning to attach it? We were thinking of the weights that are used for fishing line or something similar. Again, thanks for this really useful and helpful post!

We have a charging drawer, too. But we simply left an outlet in the back of the cabinet and used a power strip that lays in the drawer. We put the outlet at a height to allow the power strip to plug straight in and lay in the drawer. But these are IKEA cabinets, so the back of the drawer might not be as high as with some other brands.

The drawer stack is on the end of the island, 8 feet from the sink. So no water issues there.

If I kept putting my cell phone into a drawer and closing it... I'd leave it there on accident all the time! I'd forever be walking away without it.

Also, if it was in a closed drawer I'd be concerned that if I left the room for a while and then returned causing me to miss a text or message, that I wouldn't see the blinking light letting me know.
