How do you protect your walls from hanging pans?

My kitchen renovation is almost over. I opted for almost no upper cabinets and so will need to hang some pans on the inside left wall of my recessed cooking run. How do I protect the paint? My husband suggested a clear acrylic panel. My Julia Childs-o-phile best friend suggested peg board but it really won't go with my kitchen. And, there is heavy plywood under the drywall for the purpose of hanging pots and pans.

I think an acrylic panel would work. It would probably scratch over the years but it's an inexpensive solution that is easy to clean, easy to work with, and easy to replace. There are other types of plastic as well, in all colors.

Thin stone or tile would be another option but just make sure that you can use it for the hangers, either by drilling holes or some sort of epoxy for the hooks.

I don't know the look of your kitchen, but you may still want to consider the Julia Child pegboard. I am linking to Histokitch's kitchen, which is gorgeous, and she uses a pegboard on one wall next to the range.

I use a Cuisinart rack that sticks out a few inches from wall and I've never had any problem with pots and pans marking up the walls. The paint is a low gloss paint.

You may not have the depth needed for a bookshelf pot rack, but this worked well for me on a bare kitchen wall that serves as one side of a passage way through the house:

I think this DIY project would've been helpful prior to your finished kitchen, because you could have varnish it to match your paneling and it would've given you some extension and added much charm and character to your home.

My collection of pots isn't big, but it changes from time to time. Also, I have reorganization fits and change the way they are arranged. I admire people who can get fine organization right the first time, but it takes me a while of trying it out. So, maybe think about that before choosing a final system.

If you're not into peg board, there are grid systems (I linked to metro below) - a metal grid that attaches to the wall through small stand offs. Pots are hooked to the grid, the grid and stand offs keep anything from touching the wall. In the system below, you can get narrow shelves and other stuff that can hook in.

Also Ikea sell some inexpensive rails that you can use to hang pots. It will hold most of the pot off the wall and also prevent hands from touching the wall. It reduces the amount of "wall protector" needed.

Hi, just wondering how you got around this? I have the same issue. I'm thinking on painting a piece of 3 by 2 the same colour as the wall and screwing my pot rail to that to give a bit of space between the wall and the pots! Please let me know if you've found a better, more visually pleasing option! :)
