Pegasus granite Sink from HomeDepot? or suggestions?

Happy Labor Day All :-)

I am hoping that you might share your opinion on kitchen sinks please? I need to buy a sink *today* as the counter guys are coming tomorrow!

We have decided to go with the largest single sink we can fit with our 33" base cab. We want the sink to be under-mounted. We have new maple cabinets and have chosen black n' tan granite to tie in an existing kitchen island (freestanding piece).

We were certain we would go for Stainless however - upon browsing in Lowes and Home Depot for a few hours (the poor kids were so bored and yet so patient) we were really drawn to a sink apparently made just for Home Depot by Pegasus - it's basically black with a spec in it...we like it (it's less money than some of the stainless options)! and think it'll blend in to the counter top nicely... there are three different options in style - two different double bowls and one big single which we are really leaning towards.

Does anyone have any experience with granite composite sinks? I have a couple of questions...

1). Have any of you drilled into a granite composite sink before, for extra faucet holes? The large sink just has one hole and of *course* the faucet we've chosen will require four! I'm open to exchanging the faucet if you all think drilling into this material is a bad idea!

2). Is this material going to be cumbersome? Besides the obvious risk of breaking dishes / glasses which we figure we'll need to careful with the counter top anyhow so why not in the sink too LOL. I wouldn't dream of putting in an acrylic sink! (Correct me if that is an uneducated opinion). Is this basically a souped up acrylic sink? Am I falling for this under the guise that it's got "granite" in the description? It really feels like stone! [scratching my head].

Any help would be much appreciated. I don't have a picture to share as HD doesn't have it on their site.

Our kitchen sink is in your hands! We started thinking about our kitchen remodel less than a month ago, started demo and re-build just last Tuesday! We have a fabulous contractor! One guy working with Dh! Oh and we had an unexpected *need* for a plumber here on Saturday too to move an odd pipe (which the kitchen design guy completely omitted from the design - yeah - we couldn't live with a cut in the counter-top to accommodate a big old pipe! so Dh cut into the wall and the plumber came and redirected the pipe for us) he was wham bam fabulous too! Talk about quick turnaround! We've been so *lucky* with everything so far! I probably shouldn't say that just yet!

Can you help me decide on a sink? ;-)Go for the granite or play safe and choose stainless? Nothing like a rushed decision eh?

I got the Blanco siligranit version of the Pegasus sink and really like it. It is the same black with specs and so far is easy to keep clean. Out HD didn't have the Pegasus at the time or I would have looked at it. I believe someone said on this forum that it was made by Blanco for HD. You might do a search on this site as there has been lots of discussion on the SS vs siligranit option. Good Luck!!

Thanks gam51 for your opinion - I have read (somewhere) that the Pegasus is made by Blanco, the Pegasus is obviously the less expensive "generic" option. I haven't been able to see/touch/feel a Blanco but the Pegasus appears pretty decent:-/

Thanks for the lead on another thread (I'd searched before posting but didn't find anything specific, I'll try again and dig a little deeper). It helps to know that you're pleased with your black sink :-) have a happy labor-less day!

Gonemielecrazy - Try using the search box at the bottom of the page. You'll find tons of threads on the Silgranit sinks.

If you use the search box at the top of the page, it searches all of Gardenweb and you'll get a lot of junk. If you use the search box at the bottom of the page, it just searches this forum.

HTH!

I saw the Pegasus sink you're talking about recently. It looks similar to the Blanco silgranit, except to me the silgranit had a richer/darker color. Everyone seems to love their Silgranit. I bought mine this morning too, but from the HD Design Center. With the promotions they had going on I was able to get my Blanco Silgranit for less than the Pegasus. My faucet will be 3 hole but my contractor & granite guy said that's fine. Good luck!

gardenburgher thanks for the hint on the bottom search bar! Didn't notice that before! [blush].

sher nc - thanks for your input too, glad you got your sink today. The two HDs near us don't carry the Blanco sinks :-/ and they didn't have *any* deals going on today! ouch! But...I took the plunge based on nobody here telling me to steer clear of the pegasus sink! LOL So, I'll let you all know a couple of months into it how it is holding up! [Fingers Crossed!].

Oh btw, the single bowl pegasus actually has the ability to facilitate five holes! so knowing this has taken away my fear of the sink fracturing while drilling! (Maybe I am naive and there is still a risk? but I feel better knowing that there are actually five marked holes underneath).

Thanks to all for your help! Maybe I'll try and post pics whenever it's all installed. Best of luck to you sher nc with your installation! Hope it all goes well for you and anyone else in the middle of this process now too!

I'm sure yours will be fine! My contractor (who also builds houses) recommended I look at Pegasus for my faucets since their quality is good & they also have a good warranty. I waited until the last minute too & didn't have time to order online either :)

We have the single bowl pegasus sink from home depot. I too bought it in a rush as the counter folks were coming shortly. I do like it a lot- BUT- the one i bought came with a cutting board that sat over the top of part of the sink. It wasn't until the granite was installed that I noticed the sink was not rectangular but a bit trapazoid in shape. I was crushed and nothing could be done at that point. So check you single bowl pegasus sink carefully and make sure that it's a shape you love.

We have a black, single bowl Pegasus from HD. We've had it for a year and I love it as much as ever.

We installed it as an overmount, as we have laminate countertops. Here's a pic showing how it blemds with Basalt Slate Formica:

Abbycat9990 - thank you for posting the picture of your beautiful kitchen! It looks gorgeous!

Fieldser; I didn't get to check on here until last Monday when the granite guys were here! I am fine with the odd shape, but would have been really upset had I not noticed it before hand. I hope it's growing on you by now ;-) I have an unforeseen (on my part) issue related to the shape of the sink I guess!

I am not ok with my faucet line up! The granite guys drilled holes in the granite along the line of the sink! So there are four holes, the first on the left is a little over an inch from the back splash and the fourth is a little over 1.5" the faucets don't follow the straight line of the back splash?! I'm trying to see if it bothers me now that the faucet & accessories are in place...they are each different in diameter at their base and so the depth / distance from the back-splash / the edge of the sink is less obvious now.

Perhaps this is the standard thing to do, but I would have thought they'd have mentioned it to me before drilling! I didn't realize they'd done this until they were finished! If something is not going to be symmetrical then I want it to be *obviously* a-symmetrical! A statement. Not just slightly "off"! Being "slight" looks like a mistake to me!

I'm a little ill to my stomach about it really. I am upset that they spent five minutes discussing the inches apart the faucet holes should go and yet made no mention of the line they should follow! I was stupid to assume it would be STRAIGHT! Arghhh.

We had it installed as an undermount with a thin lip showing so that we could use the cutting board and accessories that came with the sink. Now we just need to get the carpenter to trim the board to fit! (Fingers crossed that'll work out).

Oh, the other faux pas! The granite guys mounted the dishwasher to the underneath of the granite by glueing and bolting clips. Great... BUT - it's in crooked! "Miss Observant" wasn't too observant that day and I didn't notice this until an hour after they'd left my home! I think I was just too enamored with the new counter-tops!

They've been supposedly "coming back" since Thursday! [rolling my eyes here] but haven't shown up *yet*! The right side of the dishwasher is not in line with the cabinet next to it and the left side sticks out and so the dishwasher door bangs into the cabinet when you are closing it! Nice one eh?

I wish my husband had been here when they were installing. Not to sound like a feeble female but I think things would have been more thorough if he'd been here. I've never renovated a kitchen before now, so I didn't know the pitfalls/ potential for error!

I am learning that in general people just don't give a rats a$$ - you need to ask lots of questions and you obviously need to stand and WATCH as everything is happening! I didn't want to hover too much so made myself busy when they were drilling (I think that was the worst time to leave the room)!

They all arrive to your house, act like they are heaven sent, ask a few questions to play the game and appease you and then proceed to do as they damn well please! Amazing!

sorry to hear about some things going wrong. People rarely realize who bears the responsibility for certain tasks in a remodel. The granite installers are not responsible for leveling or straightening the dishwasher those should be done by whom ever installs the dishwasher. Personally I would see if you can install the dishwasher through the side and into the cabinets. This is always the preferred method with granite. If you can you could fix the problem yourself in a few minutes instead of having the hassle of waiting for the c-top company to return.

RE: Pegasus granite Sink from HomeDepot? or suggestions?

mcr1, thanks ;-) That's my problem in a nutshell. I don't know who's supposed to do what! In fact, I hadn't foreseen about half of the issues that would need to be addressed throughout this process. I'm learning though...everyday.

It was a quick demolition & install (within two weeks). All issues aside, i am delighted with our new kitchen - just have a few kinks to iron out.

Your advise that the dishwasher should be handled by someone installing it makes sense to me...perhaps irrelevant but ours was already in place (same spot as it was before we ripped out our cabinets and replaced our counter-top) - they took it upon themselves to attach the clips (which they brought with them) to the granite and so I didn't think twice about it on the day :-/ I'm learning that what I know about kitchen remodeling could be written on the back of a postage stamp! LOL.

Anyhow, rambling on...since they attached the clips way out of line - I do expect them to fix it! I don't want the plumber, carpenter or my husband messing with the granite:-) They assumed the responsibility of handling it, therefore I feel they should have done it properly - stand behind your work or don't touch it at all.
