In a former kitchen, I used honed Absolute Black (similar in price to Uba Tuba) and it looked great, not unlike soapstone. I considered honed Uba Tuba for my last renovation; very beautiful. Neither one looked green at all, and white subway tiles looked good with them. This time I ended up going with Azul Platino for a lighter look on the perimeter cabinets (also lower price end) and White Veneto Marble on the island. Sorry, no pictures of my former kitchen.

Of course everything depends on which slab you select. I happen to think the deep green color of the Uba Tuba provides a depth that simple black granite doesn't have. White subway tile will work with either the Uba Tuba or the Absolut Black.

Having said that, my sister selected the polished Uba Tuba and never stopped complaining about having to clean finger prints and smears on the surface until she sold the home.

Wow! Where do you guys live that Black Pearl is a Level 3? It is a level 1, same as Uba Tuba. Absolute Black is a Level 2 or 3 depending on the shipment. That's here in Atlanta.
Anyhow, go to the stone yard and pick out your slab. Some Uba Tubas are very green, but mostly they appear black. Against white cabinets and white backsplash, the green will be more visible, but it looks great with white. Bring your door, backsplash, and if you have it a piece of your floor. Put they all up against your slab and you will get a pretty clear picture of how they will look. Those photos are great!

I was posting on the HVAC section of this site about a replacement we are doing for the home and decided to search for ubatuba on white as we just signed the paperwork to have ubatuba put in our Myrtle Beach Oceanside condo that already has white cabinets. We are pulling out the old aqua green laminate coutertops from the kitchen and both bathrooms & are moving into the modern ages with granite. Here is the BEFORE for reference and I will post the AFTER once it's been completed next weekend!

This particular picture is a "brighter" than it looks in person. The coutertops are really THAT green and the cabinet's belnd in better with the white appliances that this makes it appear. They are actually more of a whitewashed/weathered look in person.

We also have plans to replace the dated tile with the newer 3-foot by 1 foot grey tile

This looks VERY black in person. If you look closely you can see some dark green in them which actually helps accent the dark green carpet. This turned out AMAZING!

We were of the same mind as we picked Uba Tuba for the pricing. For a lot less than the cost of level 3, we were able to get the uba tuba "leathered" and while it is not done yet (we are building also), we saw a slab that was leathered and it is a LOT lighter than the standard glossy finish and the greens are not over-powering as well. You might ask them the upgrade cost to leather.

We have a pretty large kitchen. I think about 30 linear feet of counters plus a 5'x6' island. The upgrade cost to leather was only $600. We expected it to be a lot more. We jumped on that :P

Didn't want it any greener. We had seen the leathered look when looking at slabs a while back. The wife had concerns that the "Leathered" finish might catch and/or hold food crumbs/particles if used in a kitchen so we opted for the standard honed finish for the the beach condo.

Our next project is replacing our current tan/brown Corian with Silver Paradiso/Black Forest Granite in our Kitchen and Minuet Quartz in our bathrooms. I will start a different thread for that one
