Soapstone twice as much as quartz? Really?

I've been thinking of doing a dark or black vanity top in my new master bathroom and have priced out quartz and soapstone. The quotes I've received have included material, fabrication and installation. The soapstone quotes were nearly double the quotes for Caesarstone and for a no-name equivalent. Is that to be expected?

Next step is to price out honed or flamed Absolute Black granite.

I'm in the San Francisco Bay area.

M.tex in SF has pre-fab soapstone counters that are quite a bit cheaper.. Have you checked them out? Other local places seemed to not be familiar with soapstone and were quite pricey for the one or two slabs they had.

M. Tex was one of the companies that I got a quote from. I can ask about their pre-fab slabs. The 2nd soapstone quote was from a company specializes in soapstone as well.
