No questions, just some update photos

I don't need any questions answered (for ONCE), nor do I need any replies. I just wanted to share some of the latest photos to anyone who's been keeping track of my posts and so all of you who have helped so much can share the process with us.

The latest updates on our kitchen reno are:

- We are getting the range hood cover raised (and cut) and adding the trim, as per our designer's suggestion.

- Some of the cabinets were redone and the white paint looks different from the rest of the cabinets. They will have to be resprayed. Some of the hinges need to be adjusted.

- The granite install happens this Thursday (woohoo) and we're checking out the cut pieces tomorrow. Will post pics after they're in...crossing fingers that it all goes smoothly.

- Pendants were ordered and should come in a few weeks. Same deal with the Ann Sacks backsplash.

- After cabs, crown molding and granite are all in, and appliances and sinks, we get the last coat of poly on our floors.

- Then we need to purchase window treatments, kitchen table and chairs and barstools.

Phew, that's it! Still feels like a long way to go. The demo was in mid-May. Hopefully I'll be posting our "kitchens at work" photos soon enough. Cabinets and floors are super dusty...we're buying a better vaccuum head to clean up the cabs tomorrow.

Our designer balanced out the sink window by putting the glass cabinet on the right. A valance will go above the window as well as crown molding. Outlets will be mounted under cabs...plugmold I think.

Open shelves weren't installed in the ideal way, the screws should have gone in more obscure places. We'll have to put white caps on them.

View of the sliding doors and big window that will be a challenge to do window treatments due to the height differences. A round table will go in front of the regular window.

Open shelf detail above hubby's desk area.

{{gwi:1942677}}

This hole runs piping all the way down...

{{gwi:1942678}}

...to the bottom drawer of my pantry so all the computer stuff is hidden. Of course it's hubby's idea. We have twice as much storage from our previous layout so I could spare it.

{{gwi:1942681}}

The column that we've had to make peace with, since it's holding up our house after all!!

{{gwi:1942682}}

Distance between island and perimeter is 38" rather than 40" due to the way the pipes ran under the floors for the prep sink. We lost some space in the "kitchen" prep area but we did gain in on the other side for where most people will hang out anyway.

More pics.

    People use the wider entrance between the family room and kitchen, rather than the narrow one to the left of the fridge.

    Your cabinets are lovely. I'm not usually a white cabinet person, but I'm very fond of yours. It's so creamy and soothing without being at all yellow. Your espresso cabs are just gorgeous. I'm so jealous of your space.

    Question. Will the cab above your window line up with the glass fronted cab after the granite raises it up? Your KD deserves special kudos for being on top of that detail.

    Can't wait to see the finished pics.

    Laxsupermom - there won't be a cabinet above the sink, there will be a valance under a long run of crown molding above all the cabinets. They will have to reajust all the upper cabs once the glass cab goes on top of the granite. They have to remove the range hood cover since they're cutting it shorter and adding trim detail.

    Last one that shows most of the white cabinetry.

    Kate - They're from Restoration Hardware. No dangling piece (I think you're seeing a shadow) but I LOVE that look and wish I knew about it before. I can always swap these knobs with fancy dangling ones later down the line!!

    Edlakin - Bianco Antico...it has a lot of depth and should add some pizazz...

    Very pretty! Can't wait to see the granite it there. I just LOVE your slab.

    For the windows and door, I would use a valance at the same height and width so it would look to the eye that they are even and not two different heights. Really pretty kitchen! Can't wait to see it completed.

    redroze, your kitchen is looking great. You've made so much progress since we corresponded over the glass tile. Wish I could say the same about my remodel, but nothing has happened in my kitchen over the last month. Hopefully progress will resume again in the next couple of weeks. I look forward to seeing it all come together with the granite install. Again, it's beautiful already.

    Just look at that big kitchen and with very pretty cabs to boot! Your granite and those tiles you found are going to look awesome with your cabs and vice versa!

    This is why we call it Kitchen Porn! Yum yum. I'm making nanaimo bars as an inducement for me to examine that big, beautiful kitchen up close.

    LOVE IT!

    Oh wow, thanks everybody!! To be described as "kitchen porn" by RM...haha. Enjoy your nanaimo bars, I'll be eating tv dinners for a little longer.

    I've read a couple of comments about size, and we love it of course. BUT the only reason we could afford this house was how poorly it showed by the agent, and the rooms that were just icky. When we bought the house three years ago we had a ton of things to do and have been renovating/fixing/redecorating ever since!! So all you're seeing is the result, but there were many years of people coming to our house and looking room to room and going - oh, you need to renovate this room too?? It's a true fixer-upper and has been a ton of work. We would not have been able to do this having kids, and I know many of you do have small children. So we have sacrificed starting a family in order to fix our house first!! This is the reality behind the "porn" if you will, just like how they Photoshop all the kitchen magazines, and how the (not-as-good analogy) porn star was really forced into the industry due to having low self-esteem.

    As a reality check, here are some before pics of the kitchen.

    We painted the ugly laminate cabs that smelled terrible, and replaced the mouth-like hardware:
    {{gwi:1942690}}
    {{gwi:1942691}}

    This was the result:

    Our amazing "cooking area":

    And here is a pic of just one of the bathrooms we need to renovate, just to give you an idea of the state its in. No pretty, inset cabinets here!!

    Boysrus2 - I'm so sorry to hear about lack of progress. We were sitting around for 3 weeks as well to figure out a custom stain AND book a new stainer. It was frustrating...and we're technically getting our granite 3.5 weeks after they measured which is quite uncommonly long. So don't you worry, your time will come too.

    I just got reminded of my old floors. Can you imagine how different the feel would be if we decided to stick with them? Much more "country" in feel and would clash with the cabinets.

    Here is our first shot at floors. I'm so glad we decided to restain them as these would just look WRONG and I still see that golden undertone that i hate.
